Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down today. I am back at home (for this week anyway!) and getting back on track with workouts and nutrition. Let’s see how I did!
Getting Back on Track
Monday- upper + lower body strength + core + Peloton cycle + stretch
I got a good night’s sleep last night and I finally shook that jet lag. Determined to get back on track, I hit it hard getting in all the strength and Peloton cycle classes. I think I am going to feel those tomorrow.
Tuesday-45 min Peloton cycle + arms + stretch
My efforts to get back on track today were thwarted by severe morning thunderstorm warnings. I got up extra early to beat the heat It. was more annoying when said storms never actually materialized. I decided to push my run off to Wednesday. I did get in some more cycling and arm strength.
Wednesday-4 mile run + stretch + core
Getting back on track has not been as seamless as I expected. My first 2 miles were ok and then it kind of fell apart. The summer heat is killing me and I guess I am still a little out of sorts. Alas, a short run is always better than no run.
Thursday- Peloton cycle + upper/lower body strength + barre/core + stretch
Despite the fact that I am still waking up super early (thanks to jet lag) I am feeling like I am getting my strength workouts back on track.
Friday- 4.5 mile run + core + stretch
I was up with the sun today again and out early for my run. Despite that, the heat was pretty brutal. It was 99 degrees here in the DC area with high humidity. We did our best out there and yes, I did jump into the pool to cool down.
Saturday- Rest day + stretch class
Keeping up with my regular Saturday rest day. I did a short Peloton stretch class to keep up my streak.
In the afternoon, I took my mom to high tea downtown as a belated mother’s day gift. It was really nice and one of my besties and her mom joined us as well.
Sunday- on the plan 6 miles
Hoping to get back on track with my longer runs today. The weather gods have gifted us with a 25 degree temperature drop so I should have no excuses weather wise.
This afternoon, we have dinner over at my parents’ house for father’s day. I am really excited to gift my parents a sentimental gift that I hope they will both like. More on that later.
Thanks for linking up today!

It always feels great to get back on track after vacation. We got lucky and the storms were east of us so my workouts weren’t hindered. We had really heavy rain and a serious storm on Thursday late afternoon, though, long after my ride.
Happy Father’s Day to your hubby and dad. Have fun!
Deborah Brooks says
We never got the storms here and I really should stop planning my workouts around the weather bc it is so often wrong. Thanks have a great day too!
Darlene says
Hope your hubby has a great day.
Getting that normal sleep cycle is tough.
Glad you are getting back on track after an amazing trip.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks yes, it is really nice out today so we will be outside all day. I think I am finally back on track with sleeping
Wendy says
We had a nice drop in the temperatures too–yesterday couldn’t have been nicer! Glad to see you’re settling back into a routine after your trip. Enjoy your parents today!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks so much should be a nice day over there
Marcia says
Enjoy the Father’s Day festivities! I do remember waking up a little early after our trip to Dubai. Overall though I think the jet lag heading over there is worse. We also got a break in the heat but it’s supposed to return tomorrow. Ugh.
Deborah Brooks says
I had a tougher time on the return w the sleeping this time. Maybe I was just excited to be over there! Enjoy the day before all our heat comes back

You did a great job getting back on track! With all the heat you’ve dealt with lately, you have to give yourself some grace.
I love that you got to celebrate both mother’s day & father’s day this week! Can’t wait to hear what you got your Dad.
Deborah Brooks says
yes it was nice to be able to celebrate with both of my parents. The heat is hard to adapt to but I am doing my best
Cari says
High tea and other experiences are such a fun gift because we all need more time together more than we do one more physical thing, although I look forward to hearing about the sentimental gift
This temperature drop is magical.
You know I agree on pool cool downs
PS: Thanks for being such a wonderful person
Deborah Brooks says
well thanks for being a wonderful person back xoxo yes, soaking in that temp drop and wishing I could bottle it
Kimberly Hatting says
Our temps were in the mid-60F’s for my morning walk, but it’s supposed to be in the mid/upper 80F’s this afternoon (with plenty of humidity). SO, that being said, this morning felt chilly to me, LOL. I’m excited to hear about your gift to your parents 😉 Glad you’re getting back on track after your worldly travels 😉
Deborah Brooks says
we have to take advantage of days like these when we get them!
Jenny says
Glad your weather cooled down for the weekend- we know you don’t like the heat! Jet lag is rough too- I’m sure that played a factor for you this week. But you did a great job of getting back on track.
i hope you enjoy the day with your family, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the sentimental gift is!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, I do complain about the heat don’t I!? I will share photos about my gift soon didn’t want to ruin the surpise
Coco says
It’s AMAZING running weather today! I hoe you had a great run.
Celebrating Mother’s Day and Father’s Day in the same weekend — how awesome!
Where are you off to next — and when? I hope we can get together before then.
Deborah Brooks says
It sure is amazing weather! Yes we are due for a meetup. I’m in Houston next weekend and Chicago again in mid July for a few days
Melissa says
Enjoy dinner for fathers day! I can’t wait to hear what the sentimental gift it. We also had some temporary temp cool down.
Deborah Brooks says
We have to take those days when they come around!
Jessie says
That heat will get you, but I’m glad it dropped for your weekend run! Your trip looked amazing, but its nice to be home and on a routine again, right? That pool is the best post-run treat, lucky you!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, there is no place like home 🙂

Summer heat is killing me too. I think because we had such nice weather for so long it’s more difficult to adjust to, at least for me. When I first moved here it was already in the 60s every single morning. Here’s hoping the weather gods grace us with an early fall!
I’m betting your trip was amazing and all your photos look amazing but the jet lag must be insane. I’ve only traveled far away once but it was so difficult coming back-my body was hungry in really weird times and I couldn’t fall asleep at normal times either! I’m sure it’s nice to be home in your own bed though!
Deborah Brooks says
I struggle with the heat every summer! We just have to hold on till fall 🙂
Liz Dexter says
Looks like you’re working your way to being back on track. I’m still in blog post deficit after my weekend away last weekend, can’t seem to get caught up! We had a very hot day last week and there were so many runners out at 6am!
Deborah Brooks says
It is challenging to get back on track after traveling!
Jenn says
High tea is always so fun!
The heat is just unrelenting. I hate it. I’m glad you finally kicked the jet lag as that can just make everything so much worse.
Deborah Brooks says
I am glad too!
