Last week Peloton introduced the highly anticipated and buzzed-about Boxing program. Right now these classes are taught by Kendall Toole, Salena Samuela, and Rad Lopez. Wondering what it’s all about? I’ve got all the details on how it works and what you need to know.

Peloton Boxing Review

Peloton introduced the new boxing classes as a 2 week program. What does this mean? Simply, you will find the classes under the “programs” tab instead of under the “classes” tab. As more classes are added, this may change. The program is set up as a 2-week primer with 5 classes in the first week and nine classes in the second week.

While you are meant to take all of the classes in the program in order, of course, you can skip or repeat any that you choose. For those of us who love the virtual bling, There are “badges” you can accumulate as you pass milestones in your number of classes. You will get credit for taking a cardio class on your Peloton overview.

What equipment is needed?

You do not need any equipment at all to take the Peloton boxing classes. However, if you do have a pair of boxing gloves, pop them on to feel a little more badass. You do need space to move around and throw punches as you would for any cardio class. A standard pair of cross trainer shoes will work just fine.

Week 1

Kendall, Salena, and Rad do a fantastic job of teaching you the basics in week one. First, you will learn basic punches (jabs, hooks, uppercuts) Next, you will learn some basic footwork and how to move while punching. Then, you will learn some defensive moves and combos.

The intro classes do a very thorough job to prepare you even if you know nothing about boxing and have never tried it. If you have taken boxing classes before, I found the refresher to be really helpful and informative. Classes are 20 minutes long.

Week 2

Week 2 adds in some 5 minute warm-up and cool-down/stretch classes specific to boxing. They focus on arms and shoulders. A few of the warm-ups also had jumping jacks and burpees. In the second week, the boxing classes extend to 30 minutes and incorporate more combinations and drills.

Who are boxing classes for?

I would say, everyone! If you are a regular Peloton user without an injury that stops you from doing cardio classes, boxing classes are for you. All classes are low impact and can be as hard or as easy as you make them.

I was surprised that I was sore the next day from the classes. The classes really target forearms, obliques, and lats. However, since you are doing a cardio class, you are also using your legs and your full core.

The Peloton “Get Hooked” Boxing Program is another great addition to the Peloton lineup of classes. It would be fun to pair them with a shorter cycle class on a cardio day or to do them on their own with some strength classes. They are high energy and lots of fun. The music choices are spot on and the instruction is fantastic.

The new Peloton boxing classes were a hot topic of conversation at a party we attended on Saturday evening. I love the variety of classes Peloton offers!

I am so excited about this new cardio option and don’t feel the need to ever go back to a gym

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like you are hooking to a new workout.

Hopefully Peleton is not suffering from the loss of Mr. Big.

Ha I think they will survive! I do think the classes are another great cardio option for non running days

These sound so fun! I need to give them a try. I really enjoyed the kenpo workout when I was doing P90X, though my coordination left much to be desired. Thanks for the review 😉

I missed my boxing classes too! The good thing is no one else can see you so you feel like a prize fighter no matter how you look!

Peloton Boxing Program sounds interesting. I practiced boxe in the years 1975/1977 even if I never fought an official match. It’s a very good sport where the athletes need a solid preparation. I remember many champions in that gym, among others the unfortunate champion Angelo Jacopucci.

It is a great workout even if you never step into a real ring!

I didn’t make it through both weeks due to time/utter lack of bandwidth, but I really enjoyed week one and hope the program remains on the app. I had never taken a Kendall class before, nor boxing so it was a fun, welcome challenge. Besides what you mentioned, i loved that there were modifications from the beginning too.

Yes, I agree they do a great job of offering modifications. It’s super fun!

Definitely sounds like fun! Thanks so much for the review! Decades ago I was really into kickboxing and just a little bit regular boxing. It was a great way to get out some aggression! I remember once getting stuck in traffic and whining to my husband I couldn’t make it to class.

ha! It is a great workout and a fun way to get rid of some stress

I have never taken any kind of boxing class, but knew you would check it out! I do like that Peloton is adding more variety to the class lineup.
