Happy almost Mother’s Day! You’ve heard me gush over how much I love all of my Moms Run This Town friends many times and today seems like the perfect day to do it again. There are so many things to love about being part of such an amazing group of women but I’ve narrowed it down to my top 5.
Find Your Tribe And Love Them Hard
What I love about my moms run this town group
No Guilt Zone
I’ve learned that a mom who takes time to take care of herself is a happier and healthier mom. A happier and healthier mom is a better mom. I have such respect for the moms who get up a 5 am to carve out some time for themselves before heading home to get the kids out the door and head to work.
Partners in crime
Thinking of doing a Ragnar relay, mud run, triathlon or destination race? Just mention it to these mother runners and they are on board. What ever crazy adventure you can dream up, there’s a gaggle of friends signing up to join you.
Resources for problems big and small
Looking for some new fueling ideas for your long run? Having problems with chafing? Wondering what that foot pain really is? These moms have answers and if they don’t have answers they have support and that support is never ending.
Accountability
There is no bailing on a run or a workout just because it’s raining or snowing or cold or you need coffee. There is always someone waiting for you and that means you are showing up.
Lifelong friendships
I could write pages about the lifelong friendships I have made with women whom I never would have met had we not connected through running. These bonds, that are formed logging miles, are like no others. We are deeply supportive of each other in a way that I have never experienced before. I am so truly grateful to all of my fellow mother runners and honestly can’t imagine life without them.
Ok I’m done gushing for today. Hopefully I’ve convinced you to find your own amazing group of mother runners. Happy mother’s day to all of you. Hope you have fabulous weekend.

One of the MRTT groups I’m in has created a “non running related” discussion group on Facebook. It’s become my go to as I try to survive being a mom to teens. It’s amazing how women I’ve never met can make my life so much better (and then it’s awesome when we do manage to meet up.)
Deborah Brooks says
Isn’t just great the whole support system that has grown out of our local MRTT groups? And proud to call you one of my mother runner friends 🙂
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I have a loosely connected tribe, but I’m still looking for more because we don’t get together enough!
Deborah Brooks says
I hope you find your people they have made a huge difference in my life
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
What is it about the bond between women who run? I’ve struggled with women’s friendships over the years–but the friendships I’ve made with my running friends feel easy and effortless!
Deborah Brooks says
I completely agree so have I in the past but this mrtt group has transformed all of my friendships

While I’m not a member of any MRTT groups (and I’m not a mom) I agree that having a group of friends is a great motivator for running! The accountability you mentioned is present in my group too; that’s why I do the group runs because if I don’t show up someone will ask why. And it means I have people willing to get my out of bed at 6 am to do my workouts. Definitely better than going it alone! Plus the post run/swim/bike socializing doesn’t hurt either.
Deborah Brooks says
I totally agree and love that it sounds like you have found your people too. It’s a great thing!
Christina says

Happy Mother’s Day! I would love to have a mom tribe who I can run with early in the morning during the summer. Not sure if there’s one around my neighborhood? With the kids out of school, I’d have to get up early before my husband goes to work to get a run in. Guess this will be my homework before the school year ends.
Deborah Brooks says
Check to see if there is a moms run this town in your town there may be!
