February has been a whirlwind of a month and has really just flown by. I am joining in for February Runfessions, the Friday Five and the Weekly Wrap all in one today. So lets get right to it.

February Runfessions

I Runfess...I have run less mileage this month than I have in a long time and I am okay with that. If you have been reading my weekly wraps the last week weeks, you would know that I’ve switched up my workouts and temporarily dropped my running to 2 days a week. Instead I am doing lots more cardio in the form of swimming, biking and elliptical.

February Runfessions

I Runfess… A few weeks ago I absolutely hated my new plan and desperately missed my run time. Fast forward a few weeks and I am feeling stronger and a little lighter. I agree with my trainer that my body needed to mix things up a bit and get in better shape for the upcoming tri season.

I Runfess…I am savoring this February weather we have been having. I don’t think I’ve ever taken my bike out in February. I am just loving it and hope it lasts. I bet come this summer we will all be complaining about how hot and humid it is. But for now, it’s just bliss.

February Runfessions

I Runfess…We just found we hit the lottery! The Ragnar lottery. Running in California has always been on my bucket list and we just found out we will be running from San Francisco to Napa Valley this November. How  exciting is that?!

February Runfessions

I Runfess…I have not taken a day off for a few weeks now. I know not good but it just kind of happened. I am visiting my daughter at school this weekend and looking forward to a fun mother/daughter sorority weekend. Stay tuned for some fun pics all weekend on Instagram. We follow each other right?

I front loaded this week’s workouts as I knew I would be traveling. Here’s the “run down”:

Sunday-outdoor biking 75 minutes

Monday-30 minutes elliptical, 1 hours strength training, 45 minutes bike

Tuesday- 4 mile run, 1250 yard swim, 1 hour bike

Wednesday- 30 minute elliptical, 1.5 hour strength training/kickboxing

Thursday-50 min spin bike + travel day

Friday-Rest day!

Saturday- Hot yoga on the plan

What do you have to Runfess this month? Do you have a hard time taking rest days?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

When Im not following a training plan I have a hard time taking rest days. Ive actually noticed Ive been more sore lately as I have been doing more strength training. But instead of resting, I do something different the next day (like if my arms are sore Ill ride the bike). I try to keep Sunday as either a rest day or a really light day of yoga or walking, and that seems to work pretty well.

I have no problem with rest days at all. In fact, I wish I could squeeze more of them in!

San Fran to Napa . . . how beautiful. But the hills! Oy! The hills!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 12:21 pm

I know it will be really hilly but I am not even going to think about that until September

    02/24/2017 at 8:49 am

Enjoy spending time with your daughter! It should be a great weekend! And if you need a filler for Napa let me know. I’m a much better replacement than I am a planner and I’d love to travel a couple hundred miles with you! 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 12:22 pm

Yes will absolutely keep you in mind if we need a sub for Ragnar

  8. dynise says

    02/24/2017 at 9:11 am

Love these! You’re doing a lot of good work for your tri.

Hmmmm. I runfess: I really hate strength work but I know it’s good for me so I suck it up and do it anyway. I know I should be more positive about it. Working on this.

Yes, isn’t this weather crazy-great? I live in Philly and it’s going to be 75 today. I ran in shorts and a short-sleeved shirt early this morning.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 12:22 pm

I really enjoy strength training too and see great results from it

  9. Darlene says

I have lower mileage this month too cuz i was sick.It was tough not running. But it’s best to not push yourself.

Enjoy your time with your daughter.

Good luck with your new plan.

Running in Napa = bucket list

Ah…. haven’t done a Ragnar… part of me wants to and part doesn’t…. I guess I’d only want to do it if I could get my favorite people to run with to do it.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 12:29 pm

Yes it’s all about having your friends along for the ride. Great girl bonding

  12. Coco says

    02/24/2017 at 10:23 am

So glad your new plan is working out for you! I rarely take rest days at home, but my schedule for my ski trip has two “rest” days on our travel days. I think three days of skiing will be enough!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 12:29 pm

It will be a blast! Enjoy

  14. Marcia says

    02/24/2017 at 12:15 pm

February has been outstanding in terms of weather! That said, wicked overnight t’storms have turned to full-on snow. Back to reality I guess. Congrats on scoring a Ragnar spot. That’ll be amazing!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 12:31 pm

Wow you are back to snow?!

  15. Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says

    02/24/2017 at 12:41 pm

I agree with you I’m loving the warm weather right now but in 3 months it will only be June it’s sure going to make for a long hot summer!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 12:44 pm

Yes soon we can complain about the hot weather

  16. Lesley says

    02/24/2017 at 1:11 pm

My mom’s in town for the weekend too! It makes it quite difficult to focus on the rest of work when I just want it to be over for the day.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 10:54 pm

Aw sweet! Hope you have a great weekend together

  17. Gina says

    02/24/2017 at 1:43 pm

I really would LOVE to run a Ragnar. But….. I am NOT a night owl – I need my sleep so badly and get super cranky without it. I’m not sure I’d be a good Ragnar buddy. But, maybe someday. I bet that one will be fantastic!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 10:57 pm

I need my sleep as well but honestly it’s only one night you can do it

  18. Teresa says

    02/24/2017 at 2:49 pm

Oh wow! That Ragnar sounds incredible! Can’t wait to follow you through that. Sounds like this high cardio/less running plan is working…I’ve been doing the same type of workout while I’m trying to get my feet adjusted to these new orthotics. Like you, as much as I miss my long runs, I can tell that my body is responding better to the variation of workouts.

Hope you are having a blast with your college girl!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 11:02 pm

We are having so much fun thanks! Yes variety of workouts is key for me too

  19. Marsha says

    02/24/2017 at 4:26 pm

TERRIBLE time with rest days. I just don’t take them, and I know that’s not good! I have been outside on my bike 9 times this month!!! Totally unheard of in February in Indiana! But I’m loving it 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 11:03 pm

Wow 9 times that’s fabulous! I am loving all of this early biking

  20. Megan @ Meg Go Run says

    02/24/2017 at 6:14 pm

I love Cali!!! That will be a really fun Ragner Race. Will you have time to sight see/vacation at all?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 11:07 pm

Yes I hope so! Hopefully we will have time to stay in Napa for a few days

  21. Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says

    02/24/2017 at 7:36 pm

How fun to do Ragnar in Napa Valley!!! Unless, of course, you aren’t going to drink some wine….

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 11:08 pm

Ha I am sure there will be some wine involved afterwards. This is one that my husband can come along on too which is great

  22. Sarah says

    02/24/2017 at 8:20 pm

February has flown by and not just because it’s a couple days shorter than other months. You’ve had an awesome month of running and working out with all the beautiful weather you’ve had!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/24/2017 at 11:08 pm

      Yes definitely!

  23. Kimberly Hatting says

    02/25/2017 at 8:39 am

I don’t have a hard time taking active recovery days…but I do struggle with ZERO activity days. I don’t need 60-minutes of intense cardio daily, but I do like to be active. The struggle is real,,,,

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/25/2017 at 9:55 am

OH yes right there with you!

  24. Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says

    02/25/2017 at 2:00 pm

I’m terrible with rest days… I get too antsy! I am trying to make myself take today off and just do some yoga. Which starts in 45 mins. I should really get dressed. LOL!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/25/2017 at 6:12 pm

      I get antsy too!

  25. Michelle @ Running with Attitude says

  28. Clarinda says

    02/26/2017 at 8:36 pm

Unfortunately, I rarely have a hard time taking a rest day. If I don’t workout first thing when I wake-up, I can easily get distracted on the computer or watching TV.

Congrats on winning the Ragnar lottery!!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/26/2017 at 8:50 pm

Thanks I am really excited about it!

  29. HoHo Runs says

    02/27/2017 at 4:19 pm

I runfess I’ll be running lower mileage as I return from my running time off but will fill in with cycling. A Ragnar event from San Fran to Napa sounds incredible. You will have so much fun. I’ve never run in California. It too is on my list. I hope you had a wonderful weekend visiting you daughter. Our college son was home. I put him to work helping me in the yard. Thanks for linking, Deb!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/27/2017 at 7:42 pm

It’s so hard having a college student away from home isn’t it?!

  30. Kelly @ Noodle to the Rescue says

    02/27/2017 at 11:08 pm

Oh, I am jealous of your nice weather! It is still very much winter here. :-/
And the SF to Napa Ragnar sounds awesome!!! I would love to do a Ragnar someday.

How exciting Deborah about doing the Ragnar in CA! That is simply going to be amazing. I have so wanted to do a Ragnar, I am slowly crossing off items so I hope before I get off this train I can get in a Ragnar!
