Favorite Winter Running Gear

winter running gear|favorites

As a Skirt Sports ambassador, I’ve had the opportunity to try out a lot of gear and I am truly in love with these Go The Distance Tights. I have been wearing them for 3 winters now and they are super warm and comfortable. I love the slightly higher waistband that does not roll down while I am running. They are warm without being too warm and perfect for everyday runs under 35 degrees.

In the photo above I am wearing the Go the distance tights in the dream print along with the  toasty girl vest

This toasty girl vest has extra warm flannel panels, 4 pockets and a zip off hood. Added bonus, it appears to be water repellent.

When it gets really cold, I am donning the Toasty Tights this year. Made with the same flannel panels in the vest, these tights are designed with wind blocking leg panels. They have a mid rise waist and adjustable pulleys on the legs to customize the length. Super warm just where you want them.

Cold Hands? Me too! I had the opportunity to review these Mizuno Breath Thermo gloves and they have become my go to pair. They use your body heat to warm your hands and so far so good.

Favorite winter running gear

I’ve been a fan of Balega socks forever and in the winter I like to switch over to the mohair blend for a little more warmth and a little higher coverage. Check them out here.

You inspire me with me your running photos all bundled up! I am such a pansy with the cold and end up jumping on the treadmill a lot more during the winter months. I need to suck it up and get out there more! 🙂

      12/09/2016 at 8:34 am

If you get the right gear it’s really invigorating to run outside in the winter

The Go the Distance tights are definitely on my wish list this year. I don’t think we’ll get cold enough for the Toasty Tights, but I do love the look. And I need that vest! Cold enough or not!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/09/2016 at 8:38 am

The GTD tights you will love the toasty ones might be a little warm for you but the vest is amazing. I was pleasantly surprised by how great it is

  4. Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says

    12/09/2016 at 8:33 am

I recently bought the toasty tights because the fun run tomorrow is at night and it’s supposed to be pretty cold. Unfortunately I think it’s doubtful I’ll be running it — still too sick. I’m bummed. My first DNS. 🙁

Although maybe I’ll wake up feeling a lot better tomorrow, you never know!

I’m not usually a vest person but I didn’t know about the pockets . . . I may have to reconsider. And I do love Balega socks.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/09/2016 at 8:43 am

OH no being sick before a race is the worst. Hope you do wake up feeling better! I do really love the vest so much more than I thought I would

My post today is how I need winter gear. I haven’t really needed it for almost 8 years, and while I do have base layers, I need the top layers. It’ll be a shock moving from Texas.

oh yes it will! Happy to be your fashion advisor if you need it 🙂

I have a buff I wear to mainly cover my ears but I can wear it to cover my chin and face as well. Or wrap it around my wrist to wipe away snot. So versatile! 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/09/2016 at 9:09 am

Yes those really help when they can cover your chin too

  7. Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says

    12/09/2016 at 9:51 am

These all look good! I need some winter tights and need to finally make an investment so I will check those Go the Distance pairs out!

And socks! My socks are too breathable so I’m usually pretty limited in the winter. I need to try mohair for some extra warmth!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/09/2016 at 2:47 pm

If you do want any of the tights let me know I have a 20% off code I can give you

I absolutely love my buff(s) and my Nike winter running gloves. Could not get out of the house without them! Also… tea and coffee. Because sometimes you just need warming up quickly!

I am in love with my higher waisted tights when it gets cold. It is like a layer you don’t even feel 🙂 I love a the vest too, it still lets air circulate a bit so you don’t overheat, I have a full jackets that are lined and so warm I get toasty when I really start rolling lol

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/09/2016 at 2:50 pm

Yes exactly! It’s great to layer it all on and then you can always take it off

Great ideas. I run in dog runner pants (Lululemon linned pants) but I need some warmer tights to run in. Love my vest and wool socks for other musts. Gloves I haven’t found any to keep my hands warm yet. :/

  17. Marcia says

    12/09/2016 at 3:27 pm

Balegas are my favorite as well. I like wearing ones that are a little longer so there’s no cold gap between socks and tights. Gotta seal out that cold!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/10/2016 at 6:17 am

      Yes absolutely! stay warm

  18. Kimberly Hatting says

    12/09/2016 at 3:38 pm

ha ha , the shopping is coming along, but still not finished. For winter, I love my puffer vests (no particular brand) because they are warm but not bulky like a full jacket. Of course, flannel-lined tights are a necessity and a headband or hat of some sort.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/10/2016 at 6:18 am

I also love running in vests really keeps the core warm without the bulk

  19. Nicole @ Fitful Focus says

    12/09/2016 at 6:54 pm

I LOVE those tights! Might have to get myself a pair!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      WEll I agree!

  20. Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says

    12/09/2016 at 8:30 pm

Each year I say I am never running during the winter again, so I never invest in much warm weather gear. I keep running in winter so perhaps this is the year I get warmer tights and socks! Thanks for the suggestion.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/10/2016 at 6:19 am

Winter running can be great if you have the right gear. I love the fresh air even if it’s cold

  21. Rachel says

    12/09/2016 at 8:45 pm

OMG I need those tights in my life! Fleece lined AND windproof!!! It’s like a match made in winter running heaven.

      They are really warm

  22. Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says

    12/09/2016 at 8:55 pm

I do like those BreathThermo gloves too! They are so toasty warm. I want the lobster claw ones for the bitter cold, tho.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/10/2016 at 6:20 am

I may have to get those as well

  23. Jessica @ Nutritioulicious says

  26. Stacey says

Those tights look amazing, and I’m a big fan of Balega socks. My go-to winter piece is a vest. I don’t get too cold/warm up quickly when running so a long sleeve top with a vest is perfect.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/10/2016 at 6:22 am

I love a vest in the winter too. Warmth for the core without totally committing to a jacket
