We just returned from our latest visit to Canyon Ranch (Lenox) in the Berkshires. It is always fun to try new activities and experiences when you have the chance. I thought I’d share some of my favorite fitness activities and what I liked about them. This post contains affiliate links.
Favorite Fitness Activities at Canyon Ranch Lenox
The fitness schedule at Canyon Ranch is always evolving and some activities are seasonal. These are some of my favorite activities from September 2023. Hope this helps you plan for your upcoming visit.
BOGA Fit Mat
I would describe this class as a combo of strength training, yoga, cardio, balance, and SUP in a pool setting. It’s high intensity and low impact. The BOGA fit mat classes are an add-on charge currently and have a max of 4 people. I was the only person in my class and thus, the instructor was able to tailor my workout to my likes and preferences.
The balance aspect was a great challenge for me. Once you get over the fact that you are going to fall into the water and get wet, it’s great fun! I particularly enjoyed the push-ups to downward dog which offered a nice combo of strength and balance. If you think side planks are hard, try them on a BOGA. My 50 min class flew by!
Archery
It’s been a while since I played Katniss in Hunger Games. Archery is another add-on experience at Canyon Ranch. This was a great activity to do with people at fitness levels and we enjoyed doing this as a family. The instruction was fabulous and we all learned a lot.
During this 90-minute experience, we had many rounds of arrow shooting and all left feeling accomplished. The beautiful grounds and background sure help too.
Aerial Yoga
This was a must-do for me (and my daughter). The yoga instructor was great at cueing us and giving us lots of time to feel comfortable before moving on to more complex poses. I am neither flexible nor a “yogi” but I sure felt like a rockstar after this class.
Once I relaxed and trusted that I would not fall, I was able to feel very comfortable flipping upside down and hanging. Aerial yoga is a great exercise for tapping into your personal strengths be those flexibility or strength and using those to propel you into position. These classes are also add-on experiences in small group settings.
Rowing
One of the more challenging fitness classes on the regular Canyon Ranch schedule is the 50 min rowing classes. Aside from trying rowing at Orange Theory, I’ve not taken a real class. I really appreciated that intro to the rower, positioning tips, and instruction that I did not receive at OTF in the past.
We did fun drills both time and effort-based. I found this class to be a great challenge. I did not get great photos so check out the TechnoGym rowers in action here.

Cardio Yoga/Rock Your Flow
I mentioned that I am not a “yogi” however the Cardio Yoga and Rock Your Flow classes made me feel like one. It’s been a while since I have been to an in-person yoga class. I loved the combo of fast-paced cardio and strength (think lots of push-ups and planks) with traditional yoga flow.
After taking a few of these types of yoga classes, I rediscovered my love of this type of movement and appreciate how adding this back into my weekly routine can be beneficial to my fitness. There a numerous drop-in yoga classes daily (cardio, restorative, Vinyasa, etc.)
Good Vibrations
Offered daily during my visit, “Good Vibrations” uses Therabody products like Theragun mini, Vyper foam rollers, and wave to give you an opportunity to learn more recovery and therapeutic uses for equipment you may already have.
These 25 min classes were my favorite way to end the day of exercise and give my body some great TLC. While I frequently use these at home, I rarely would allow myself a full 25 minutes. It was marvelous.
These were some of my most favorite fitness activities during my visit to Canyon Ranch in Lenox, Massachusetts in September 2023. Hope this gives you some ideas of what you might find during a future stay. If you are looking for an adult “summer camp”, fitness and wellness escape, this is it.
Thanks for helping to make the Runners’ Roundup a huge success by visiting all of the hosts: Me, Debbie, Jen, Lisa

I saw this in your weekly roundup and wondered how the BOGA Fit Mat worked. It looks like so much fun!! I would love to try that out. Thanks for posting the video, too.
I can’t imagine doing a 50-minute row class! Well done!
What a great week of fun activities!

I enjoyed following your adventures on Instagram. It looks like you had such a fabulous time. I especially love the aerial yogo. I’ve only done it once but I love it. It’s not offered around here so I haven’t had a chance to try it again.
Deborah Brooks says
It is a lot of fun! I’d love to find a place to do it again too

I’ve never done aerial yoga but it looks SO FUN! I loved seeing your pics on social, looks like such a fun experience!

That BOGA class sounds amazing. The aerial yoga looks scary, but I believe you that you eventually get comfortable and realize you’re not going to fall on your head. The rowing class sounds GREAT- there are rowers at my gym, but I’ve never tried rowing and I’m pretty sure I’d be doing it all wrong. I need an instructional class! Overall your experience sounds incredible- glad you girls enjoyed it!
Deborah Brooks says
The rowing definitely has correct form which I did not know. We had a blast trying new things

It sounds like an amazing time! I don’t think I’ve done archery since summer camp!
I know I’d be shaking on those mats in the pool, but it does sound like fun.
It’s awesome your Mom and daughter joined you!
Deborah Brooks says
The pool class was really challenging and I really enjoyed that. Archery was so much fun to do together
Jenn says
What fun!
I love archery, and I love paddleboard yoga, so floating mats would probably be similar. Aerial yoga is a little more challenging, but you look like a natural!
Deborah Brooks says
Archery is so much fun and was something we could all do together. Aerial yoga is really just trusting that you won’t fall!

This is really so cool, Deb. I am sure the word boredom did not come up when you were there 😉
