As I am sure you all have noticed, the devastation in California’s wine country continues to wreak havoc. I am so sad for all the families and businesses that have lost so much and for the beautiful landscape that has been destroyed. Unfortunately, our plans to run the Napa Valley Ragnar have been cancelled. As I am disappointed, I know that we all have our health and are safe and sound. Next year for sure! In true “Runner Form” I am now, of course, looking to fill up my fall race schedule with a bunch of local races. Fortunately, the DC area has a ton of Fall Races To Run.
Fall Races To Run In The DC Area
I’ve been pretty conservative with my running and have slowly added back in the mileage after after my awful summer of running. I am feeling better than I have in a long time so, of course it’s no surprise, I am signing up for everything I can find. Last November I did 5 10K’s throughout the month so apparently this is my M.O. in the fall.
Veteran’s Day 10K
Nothing is more powerful than running by the monuments of fallen soldiers on Veteran’s Day in Washington, DC. Great course too if the wind is not whipping off of the Potomac River. I could also squeeze in another 10 K for a rare Friday race two days before this one. Is this just crazy?
Bethesda Turkey Chase 10K
A tradition for me the past few years. I love to get a negative calorie burn working on Thanksgiving Day.
Girls on The Run 5K-December 3rd
End of the season 5K is quickly approaching. The season always seems to fly by!
Jingle All The Way 15K?? December 10th
So I have not signed up for this one yet. It used to be an 8K which I thought was a great distance. I was going to stick to 10K’s until the first of year but…it’s so tempting. If am comfortably running 6 ish miles right now and feeling good, I should be able to add in a few more miles. I’ve never done a 15K which would mean an automatic PR right π I also saw the nice new medal they have for this year.
Someone talk me into it or out of it! Have any fun holiday races on your schedule?

Kim G says
I’m here to talk you into it, especially the holiday themed races because they are so much fun!
I feel like I need to give DC races another try. I had such a bad experience with the Rock in Roll DC race in 2015 that I swore off going back there for races, but DC has so many good ones that I need to go back there again π
Deborah Brooks says
OOh how about doing the lottery to get into the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler? The lottery opens up mid December.
Kim G says
Ohh I didn’t know the lottery opened up in December – I might just do that!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes!
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
It’s always fun to do holiday races. I think you should definitely sing up because like you say an automatic PR.
Deborah Brooks says
Good enough reason as any!
MCM Mama says
I’ll see you at the Jingle Bell one. I keep forgetting that I signed up for it LAST December. I should probably actually put it on the calendar.
Deborah Brooks says
I think I am going to do it!
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
Can you sign up on race day? If so, wait until then to register to see if you are in a jolly, jingle bell-y mood to run!
The fires are so heartbreaking. π I can’t even read the articles about it because it is depressing. I’m sorry you can’t run your race. I know you were excited.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I can wait a little longer to sign up and see how I am feeling
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says
What a fun list of races! DC really has the best races.
So sorry about the napa race too.
Deborah Brooks says
We are lucky to have so many choices available!
Shathiso says
I say go for all of them. I have got about 5 left for the year, so will be united in racing out the year! π
Deborah Brooks says
Sounds good to me!
Marina @ Happy Healing says
So many fun races. I can’t wait to do a turkey trot here in Boston on Thanksgiving day π
Deborah Brooks says
I do love the Turkey day races!
Mattie | Comfy & Confident says
Do it!!! It’s only a few more miles and it will be a challenge. It’s good to step out of your comfort zone. You can easily do a 10k. Try for a 15k!
Deborah Brooks says
Well when you put it that way!
Jenn @ Runs with Sole says
We were supposed to run Ragnar Napa Valley too. So awful what everyone is going through. When I lived in the DC area, I loved the Bethesda Turkey Chase. I say do them all for fun! π
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it’s quite the bummer! Hope we both get to do it next year
Cyndi says
Sounds like some fun races! Go for the 15k. I’m sure you’ll do great!
Deborah Brooks says
Peer pressure!! π
Lesley says
I did a turkey trot one year, and it was really fun. I felt accomplished for the day, and enjoyed my meal π
Deborah Brooks says
Yes! Exactly the reason I love to do them
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I really do love racing at this time of year. You should absolutely sign up for the 15k! It’s a nice distance, sort of like a 10k — challenging, but not quite as tiring as a half.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes sort of like a 10K but 3 more miles!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I”m signed up to run a Jingle Bell 5k for RA, but work won’t give me the morning off. Sigh.
Deborah Brooks says
Well that’s not very nice!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
This makes me miss the eat coast! There don’t seem to be as many races here. Not that I can run. LOL!
Deborah Brooks says
We have so many races here we are lucky
Kimberly Hatting says
YOU are lucky to have so many choices and options π Races sort of come to a crashing halt in Iowa after October. There are a few November races, but hardly anything in December. And January? ha! There’s one I’ve done a few times called the Chamburrrr Scurry , and it’s ALWAYS a frigid endeavor π
Deborah Brooks says
Well you are just going to have to come and do a race with me here! We have a ton
Coco says
Oh, I bet I could be talked into the 15K π
Deborah Brooks says
Fabulous! Let’s do it not that I can keep up w you π
Laetitia says
I just signed up for the Jingle All the Way 15K. Do it π
Deborah Brooks says
I signed up yesterday too! See you there!
