Exciting Race Plans for 2015

I always get excited in January thinking about all the races I could run in the coming year. I wish I could Run All The Races but I so have to resist the urge to sign up for too many. I am a little nervous about signing up for too much because I missed a bunch of races last spring due to injury. And wouldn’t you know it, I started out 2015 with a bad case of Plantar Fasciitus which landed me in a boot for a few weeks. I am happy to say that I am out of the boot and plan to start running again today. Fingers crossed! I’m linking up with Erika and April this week for

Tuesdays on The Run link up|Running|exercise

I am trying to sign up for races that are new to me. Here’s what’s on my Race Schedule so far:

1. Rock n Roll half Marathon DC-March 14th-

medals-announced-2

Rock n Roll races are so much fun to do. They have the best medals ever! I am especially excited for this race because I missed it last year after I worked for RnR as the Race Ambassador. I’m really hoping this most recent injury won’t prevent me from running it.

2. George Washington Parkway Classic-April 26th

I’ve never done this race and I hear it is supposed to be great and not too hilly.
3. Ragnar Cape Cod-May 8 & 9
Ragnar Cape Cod
I am so excited for this one! Our team from the DC Ragnar (Moms Do It All Night Long) is back together to run our 2nd Ragnar. This is my goal race this year and I hope to be as healthy as possible and maybe take on some longer legs.

4. Reston Sprint Triathlon-May 31st
I haven’t done a Tri race in a few years and thought this was a great time to jump back in. I love a challenge and this goal will force me to stay on my bike and in the pool and not just run. I’ve roped 2 of my girlfriends into it as well. I am sure you will see lots more on this as our training progresses.
Reston Sprint Tri|May 31 2015
5. Lawyers Have Heart 10K-June 13
I’ve never done this race either but I hear it’s a great one. With a start in Georgetown should be a fabulous race for summer.
I’m not exactly sure what’s on tap for fall this year but if you have any suggestions let me know! I will be away a lot in June and August and wasn’t sure what I could fit in. I may squeeze in another tri or a Century Bike ride in late summer.
Anyone ever do any of the Baltimore Running Festival runs?

What race are you most excited about this year??

I’m just pumped for whatever comes my way, but I am so excited about Phoenix (to meet so many people that I already adore) and Ragnar (for the experience). I have no idea what else I am getting into this year! Hopefully a triathlon!

I am back at tri races this year too! I used to love them but got burned out. I think it will force me to cross train more and hopefully not get injured as much from running.

Sounds like a great start to the year. I’m running many of the same ones as you. GW Parkway is a great race. I’m looking forward to running it after working it for the last few years.

Hey, great news on the boot being off and being able to run! I’m planning on the first 2 on your list (already registered for RnR) and for the Lawyer’s Have Heart 10k. I did that one last year as my first 10k and really enjoyed it. It was really well organized and while I’ve heard other years have been way too hot, the weather was nice last year.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/13/2015 at 4:21 pm

Ok we definitely need to meet up!

  7. Stephanie says

Sounds like an exciting schedule. I am not really a “racer” so I have not developed a race schedule but I deferred the Broad Street run here in Philly last year due to injury and our never ending winter that slowed my training but I think I am gong to go for it this year. I have never run 10 miles before so my biggest challenge is mentally committing. Hope you have a great season!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/13/2015 at 4:23 pm

Ooh I’ve always wanted to do that one too!

I’m so glad you are out of the boot. Hope everything goes well with your run. I haven’t made any real plans yet, but have quite a few items penciled in on my calendar. I’m winging it, I guess. Here’s to an injury free 2015!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/13/2015 at 4:25 pm

Thanks! I am kind of winging it too bc I am not sure how the foot is going to feel.

    What a fabulous race schedule!!!!!!
I bet you really enjoy the Cape Cod race, I hear its beautiful there:) They have a marathon I want to run there, that I don’t think I will get to this year, but for sure next year!
I think the race I am most looking forward to this year, will be my first marathon back after my long work injury layoff. It will also be my 40th marathon, so it’s kind of got quite a bit of great things going for it, besides being the first after 2 years of being unable to run them. I haven’t decided 100% just yet, but it will be either in March or April:)

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/14/2015 at 9:24 am

Wow didn’t realize you had run so many marathons! Impressive indeed.
