You all know how much I love to workout on vacation, so it’s important for me to have all the fitness gear I need to stay on track. While I love to take advantage of all the outdoor activities travel venues have, I like to be prepared with my own gear as well. These are my Essentials for the fit traveler.
I received a pair of Shady Rays sunglasses to review as part of being a BibRave Pro. Learn more about becoming a BibRave Pro and check out BibRave.com to review find and write race reviews.
Essentials for the Fit Traveler
Travel sized foam roller
Always a must in my travel bag is a small sized foam roller. Sitting on a plane or in a car can make my back and legs so tight. I am always thankful to have my foam roller along for a quick massage.
This one is just 12 inches long and perfectly sized for travel.
Travel Yoga Mat
You never know when you may need a little savasana on your vacation. This fold up yoga mat is perfect to take along to use in your room.
Resistance Bands
A weekly staple in my home gym workouts, I like to travel with my resistance bands. They are so easy to use while traveling to get a full body workout. I will be sharing some of my favorite resistance band exercises next week.
Great pair of cross training shoes
A comfy pair of shoes to wear out exploring, the gym or anywhere else your travels take you.
A fantastic pair of sunglasses
Shady Rays are on a mission to make durable, polarized sunglasses for the active set. With fun frame colors and shiny lenses, they are made for adventure. What I love most about Shady Rays is that they don’t bounce around while I run or bike with them. They even passed my sunscreen sweat test!
They are reasonably priced and completed guaranteed against breakage and loss. That’s right! If you lose or break them, Shady Rays will replace them for you. Now that’s a win. This post contains affiliate links.

Those sunglasses are cute! I wonder how they compare to Goodr?
I always pack my running stuff but usually I forget something! LOL

They are super cute and I love how sturdy and substantial they are.Yes it’s always good to have some gear with you
Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says
I feel like just packing my workout clothes is a win for traveling! Now that I have some resistance bands, I know I’ll be throwing those in my bag whenever I’m traveling.
Deborah Brooks says
I love to have my bands with me so versatile
Coco says
My big debate is usually whether to bring a fuel belt or my Hydraquiver, or just plan to manage with pockets and carrying water. I only take my foam roller if we’re driving, but the bands are a great idea.
Deborah Brooks says
I take my running belt if I know I will be running in the heat. Sometimes I just bring a SPI belt
Debbie says
Those sunnies are so cute! I need sunglasses that don’t slip or fog up, especially with humid it’s been this summer.
I really could use a travel size foam roller. I usually travel by car, so it’s not as important, but I haul my big Intelliroll along with me everywhere I go. I do keep my lacrosse ball in my purse, so that’s a little easier to travel with!
Deborah Brooks says
I love the sunglasses and they do not fog up on me and they are very sturdy compared to others. Yes having a foam roller is key!
Mikki says
Travel yoga mat!!! Love that idea!! Going to go look for one now. We are going out of town for the holidays so this was a big help!
Deborah Brooks says
The fold up yoga mat is great if you want to do some stretching in a hotel room.

I packed a lot of workout gear for the cruise that I ended up not using. That’s OK, I like choices 🙂 I wore a lot of my Capris though since they’re comfortable, and none of the excursions I did were fancy.
Deborah Brooks says
I am planning on a very active cruise!

Essentials indeed!
Kimberly Hatting says
A mew thing I found a few month ago at TJ Maxx is a massage stick…it’s about 15 inches long and has several 2-inch sized beads along it. so it’s really narrow. It works like a foam roller, but is not as bulky 😉 Those sunglasses are so cute….if you need to pass them on to a friend….you know….; -)
Deborah Brooks says
The massage stick is also a great option. I do love the glasses and I will certainly keep that in mind 🙂
Sandy says
That’s a great list! I always take my travel yoga mat and a pair of running shoes. I love those sunglasses!
Deborah Brooks says
The travel yoga mat is so great to have. Also loving the sun glasses
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
I’m on a trip right now, making sure to stay active! My essentials include a good pair of sneakers, my Apple Watch to track my heart rate & calorie burn, and my phone/headphones to play some good beats while I work out. I usually try to just be flexible in what my workouts are, but just make sure to get in some sort of sweat session whenever I can.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I agree- I like to get in some sort of activity everyday while traveling but it may be something different from what I usually do. Hope you are having a great time
jill conyers says
I never leave home without yoga pants and mat. And running shoes. Can’t miss the opportunity to run in new places 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I do love to run and walk while visiting new places. Best way to see a city!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I use the original worm when I travel — although this time we drove so I lugged my ShinTekk & full sized foam roller with me (although I’m not quite sure where I’ll roll in this room!). Skirt sports, of course. My ipad . . . lots of exercise videos. And Nuun to stay well hydrated! And since it’s a race, my hydration vest. Race fuel, post race snacks — even smoothies since we drove & have a fridge in the room!
Deborah Brooks says
Sounds like you are very prepared! Hope you have a fabulous time

Oh those sunglasses are FLY!!!! I have rogue ball (https://www.roguefitness.com/mobilitywod-super-nova-2-0?gclid=CjwKCAjw_IPcBRAjEiwAl44QkTWZZbgd8lWkYRUUtRbWH_tgIppRG8R4dZ7-FbQNzswPP3ApfjSwFRoCNr8QAvD_BwE) that I take when I fly and can’t fit my foam roller. Once, going to FL, TSA took it out of my bag and inspected it. They asked me, “Is this like a workout ball?” I said, “It’s for myofacial release.” hehe.
Deborah Brooks says
ha I love when TSA asks questions about running gear 🙂 I will check out the ball thanks for sharing
Natalie says
Love the travel sized foam roller! The shades look super cute and love the price point. I always pack my fitness gear first, then everything else follows 🙂

I also bring my rolling stick, massage balls and of course workout clothes!
Those are cute sunglasses too!

Farrah says
Those sunglasses are so cute!! I definitely wouldn’t mind having a travel yoga mat to pack along with me when I travel either! *-*
I need snacks, sunscreen, comfortable shoes, and sunglasses in mine! :]
Deborah Brooks says
The travel yoga mat is great to have!
Cari says
I’ve loved that more and more hotels have foam rollers so I’ve stopped packing those. I have a pair of shoes that are essentially out of miles but not to the point where I can’t run in them so I bring them knowing I can toss them if I need to for space reasons
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I try to research in advance what hotels might have in them before I get there.
