It’s never too late to set a few small goals right?! While I have not quite nailed down my goals for 2018 yet, I do have 5 small goals I’d like to achieve by the End Of The Year.
End Of The Year Goals
Get Extra Rest
That annoying calf/shin issue that forced me to DNS last week, is on it’s way to healing. I plan to give it lots of extra rest and a chance to heal completely. I have been burning the candle at both ends the last few weeks and that is a set up for injury for me. I am not letting anything stop me from training for and running the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler come April. We are going away for a week and I plan to take lots of rest days. No one wants to start the year off injured!
Family Time
Now that our kids are older, I really treasure the time that we all have together as a family. I am so looking forward to our week away together in Aruba coming up. I plan on lots of pool time, walks on the beach and just hanging out together. I will be one happy mom when we are all together.
Eat Some of the cookies
It can be pretty challenging this time of the year with all of the sweets everywhere. I plan to allow myself to eat some of the treats that come my way but not completely over do it. As much as I love chocolate, I don’t really feel so great after I over do the sugary stuff. I do believe this time of the year is about letting loose a bit and indulging in moderation of course.
Beach Reading
I have a few books stacked up on my dresser that I would like to dive into. I am imagining sitting on my beach chair and binge reading a few legal thrillers. The new John Grisham book and David Baldacci book will coming along with me.
Think about 2018 goals
I am actually not sure yet about what my 2018 goals are. Right now I am focused on Cherry Blossom and staying injury free. I suspect the rest of my goals will just evolve. Who says that you have to have all of your goals in place by the end of the year?
PS Thanks Meg (Meg Go Run) for the lovely Hanukkah card you sent as part of the blogger card swap. Very thoughtful!
Are you setting any End of The Year Goals? Already have your 2018 goals in place?

These goals sounds perfect for the end of the year, especially when you have a vacation coming up! I hope you can get some rest and enjoy some good books on the beach!
Deborah Brooks says
That’s my plan!
Agness of Fit Travelling says
It seems like you’re going to use the last days of this year really enjoying yourself, Deb! Have a great time and indulge in those cookies. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Life is too short not to eat some cookies right?
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Ahhh Aruba sounds lovely at this time of year. It has been freezing here lately! I am jealous of your beach vacation coming up. I feel like that is the only time I read books.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes Aruba should be perfect next week really looking forward to it
Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says
Aruba will be amazing! Plus reading on the beach is one of my favorite things to do – so jealous. One one of my goals for the end of the year is to soak up as much friend and family time as I can while I’m at my parents house next week.
Deborah Brooks says
I hope you have a fantastic visit with your family and friends next week. Happy Holidays!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I am thinking about 2018 goals. I have some, but there’s a lot more thought that needs to be done!
Thankfully I am no longer burning the candle at both ends, but have been tending a sick husband and trying to not catch his bug!
I don’t think it’s ever possible to actually have all the goals set up that far in advance, anyway, but nothing wrong with thinking about it.
Deborah Brooks says
Hope your hubs is feeling better and you mange to stay healthy. Sick husbands…ugh
Coco says
These are great goals! Our family vacay is threatened by the lack of snow out west — I need a blizzard in the next three weeks!
Deborah Brooks says
Ha probably a high probably of snow out there but I guess you can find some other activities to do together.
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
I love legal thrillers! One of my goals this winter break is to enjoy some reading. In fact, I should probably put some books on hold at the library now so they are available when I have time to read. I love a good Mary Higgins Clark book. I know they are a little cheesy and always follow the same formula, but it’s comforting.
Deborah Brooks says
I used to read those all time-great for relaxing and chilling. Hope you have some time to do that
Kim G says
Nothing beats family time, especially at this time of year 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Exactly!
Debbie says
Have a great vacation! That Grisham book will make a great beach read since it basically takes place on a beach! My end of the year goals are to basically make it through. 🙂 Kidding! I’m working on my 2018 plans too (how did it get here so quickly?).
Deborah Brooks says
Making it through sounds like a great plan! Happy Holidays to you
Marcia says
I’m right there with you on the chocolate. I love it but it doesn’t love me back. Other than Gasparilla in Feb, I have no goals for 2018 either. Still tossing around ideas about tri, fall marathon, etc. Hopefully it’ll become clearer soon. Enjoy the rest of Hanukkah and your family time! I am heading to a warmer climate next week!
Deborah Brooks says
Enjoy your trip as well! I have to decide what to do about tri races this year after my not so stellar performance last summer.
Erinn says
Love these goals! I can’t wait to soak up all the family time over the holidays.
Enjoy your weekend!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks me too! My daughter will be getting in tonight
Catherine says
I’m afraid you will not be able to eat some of the cookies because I’m pretty sure I ate ALL of the cookies yesterday. 🙂
Enjoy your trip. That sounds heavenly!
Deborah Brooks says
Ha ha we all have days like that don’t we?!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I haven’t quite figured out my 2018 goals yet either – I have a 10 miler in March but that’s it so far (sadly CB lottery gods were not kind to me!)
Aruba sounds like a great way to get some R and R – enjoy your family time!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh no sorry you did not get into CB but most people are able to get a transfer bib sometime in February if you are still interested then.
Chaitali says
The week of family time in Aruba sounds great! And that’s a good point about not having to have all your goals in place by the beginning of the year 🙂 I’m not sure what I want to work on next year either and I guess it will hopefully come to us later.
Deborah Brooks says
I am sure it will for both of us!
Lesley says
I need to work on lowering my stress levels. Since I got promoted, I’ve been stressed, and I can feel it through my body. I definitely need to work that, which means I should get back to running. That’s always been a good way for me deal with things. And reading too. I haven’t read as many books this year as last year.
Deborah Brooks says
Sorry to hear that you are so stressed! Yes finding something to help you out would be great running or yoga or reading or all 3!
Chelsea says
I LOVE these ideas for end of the year goals! I definitely need to focus on a few of them myself! The holidays can be so tough to keep my hands out of the cookie jar one too many times! BUT, I love to also try to keep a good balance on truly being in the moment and enjoying the great times with family and friends with absolutely zero guilt of moderation in indulgences! I also love your idea of beach reads!! Nothing better than sitting by the beach soaking up a good read! 🙂
Have a great weekend Deborah!!
Deborah Brooks says
I am excited to hang out by the beach!
Mary Long says
Sounds like a perfect way to end the year. Happy holidays Deb!
Deborah Brooks says
Definitely! Happy holidays to you as well
Ana says
Those sound like wonderful way to wrap up 2017, resting and eating cookies.
I hope your injury heals soon!
Deborah Brooks says
Well when you put it that way it sure does!
Akaleistar says
Eating cookies is a very good end of year goal 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I think so too!
Rachel says
Those sound like some great end of year goals. I’m super jealous of your beach vaca…
Deborah Brooks says
I am very looking forward to it!
Wendy says
Pretty jealous of your beach vacation and family time. We can’t do family vacations right now–my youngest is in sports and the coaches really frown on taking time off. My oldest just started with his apprenticeship with the electrician’s union, so he can’t take time off. Sigh…
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am sure in a couple of years they may be a little more scattered around but for now I am holding on as tightly as I can
Nicole @ fitnessfatale says
Love this! I am all about small goals, so these end of year goals are great.
I need to think about my 2018 goals – I don’t want to skip them just because I’m pregnant.
Deborah Brooks says
I think you are going to have your hands full!
Kimberly Hatting says
You are gonna rock those goals & sail into 2018 ready for action. My goals (for the new year) are not in place yet, and I’m fine with that. They always shift as new races pop up LOL
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks I am excited to get away next week for sure
Atim at EffiFit says
I plan to enjoy the cookies this holiday season too! They’re my favorite part 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Yes indeed!
Susie | Mile High Dreamers says
Family time is a must! And so is eating some of the cookies. I try to be selective about which delicious noms I indulge in, but it’s so hard sometimes!
Getting rest is a great priority. We don’t take that time for ourselves nearly enough, especially when our bodies need it!
Honestly, I’m excited about 2018 goals. Bring it on!

Deborah Brooks says
I am definitely guilty of not taking enough rest and I want to start off 2018 right so I am sticking to my plan
Celia (Chicago Jogger) says
I love the idea of ‘year end’ goals – I should do something similar. Have a wonderful trip to Aruba!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks so much happy holidays to you!
Farrah says
Those sound like great goals! I’d love to be on the beach!! *-* I don’t get to see my family until May, but I’m definitely looking forward to then!
Deborah Brooks says
that is a long time to be away from family! Happy Holidays to you
Angela Cardamone @marathonsandmotivation.com says
I love the idea of making end of the year goals! Extra rest is something I would like to have happen 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I think we could all use a little extra rest!
Nicole @ Fitful Focus says
These sounds like great goals for the end of the year! I hope all that rest pays off!
Deborah Brooks says
I think it will!
