Drinking My Veggies with Alive Juices

As a lifelong vegetarian, I’ve not really given much thought to the whole juicing phenomenon. Many of my friends, are religious “Juicers” and swear by the results and positive effects they glean each day. I don’t have my own juicer and never felt the  need to rush out and buy one. When I was contacted by Alive Juices in Washington, DC to test out some of their products, I was intrigued.

Rachan Malhotra started Alive Juices after his father’s stroke in an effort to literally nurse him back to strength. He’s now on a mission to do the same for local DC residents. Unlike juices you might find at your grocery store, these juices are literally made for you shortly before they arrive at your door. Oh yes, you read that correctly they actually have free delivery of the juices right to your home or office.

I was given 4 juices to try out. I opted to drink them as supplements rather than do a cleanse because this girl is not going without food for 3 days! As I mentioned, they were delivered to my home (in 16 oz. Mason Jars) personally nice touch. Each juice has approximately 200 calories as reported by Alive Juices. They are made without added sugar and with local, organic produce. They cost around $8 a jar depending on which plan you purchase.

Juice #8 “Morning Sunshine” Squash, Cilantro and Pineapple. Opening the jar, I could really smell the Cilantro. I was pleasantly surprised this juice was phenomenal tasting. I couldn’t taste the Squash at all but loved the Pineapple. I had this before a morning spin class in the hopes of an energy boost. While I didn’t feel full for hours, as some people have reported, it was a nice pre workout snack and kept me going throughout my class. This was my favorite of the juices.

Juice #4 “Detox Mantra” made of carrots, beet, kale and Cilantro was an interesting yet tasty combination. Again the smell of Cilantro was evident and the taste was very nice yet not as sweet as the first.

Juice #1 “Positive Karma” made of cucumber, celery, spinach & cilantro again smelled of cilantro but tasted a lot like the cucumber flavored water I make in the summer time. It was light and crisp and not at all sweet. I drank this one as a recovery drink post workout. I felt I needed more food about 30 minutes later.

Honestly, these juices tasted fabulous and much better than I imagined. They were fragrant & fresh and looked like they were just made from my kitchen. If someone was standing here each morning making me a juice like this, I would probably drink it. I have a hard enough time keeping enough veggies and fruit in the house to last a week as it is let alone putting 2 whole salad bowls into a drink.

Do you drink your #Veggies? Should you? Testing out @Alivejuices

A few reasons Alive juice may be for you:

–Do you really eat all the recommended servings of veggies in one day? When was the last time you had kale and squash for breakfast?

-Are you really going to buy, prepare and juice all of those veggies on your own?

-Do you like the convenience of home delivered juices on your schedule?

(If you live in the DC area, check out Alive Juices and tell them I sent you for 10% off)

I’d love to know, do you use Juicing as part of your regular diet? What benefits have you found?

I’m linking up with Jill and Nicole today so please check out their fabulous posts as well.

It’s definitely not a part of my regular routine but I have juice every once in awhile and I really like it! I will say that my juice HAS to have some kind of fruit in it otherwise I just don’t like it! If I can taste celery, NOPE! 🙂

I need the fruit in mine too! I like veggies but I like the crunch of them.

I’m a bigger fan of chewing, but occasionally I’ll get a juice. I just really like eating. LOL!

Ha so do I! Feels much more satisfying to chew it to me.

My husband gave me an extremely nice juicer for Christmas last year. It is sitting in the cabinet, still unused. I should be ashamed!! If someone did it for me, I’d probably like it. 😉

I know! I’ve thought about it but it seems like a lot of work!

I don’t juice as part of my regular routine, but I have thought of it. I like the idea of having it delivered though! Now we’re talking!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/12/2014 at 1:21 pm

I do think the delivery option is great and it was very fresh. I don’t have time to buy all of those veggies and juice them

I drink a large V-8 every morning! I would love to mix it up a bit but those fancy juices can get kind of pricey and I am to short on time in the mornings to make something like that from scratch. They sound yummy though!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/12/2014 at 1:22 pm

I never knew anyone who actually drank v-8! I use it to cook with for the base of many soups. I don’t have time to make it every morning either

I’m a big juice fan, and this sounds like an amazing company! I’m not sure about all that cilantro, though haha!! Thanks for linking up 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

I could really smell the cilantro but not taste it so much. Linking up with you is always fun 🙂

  7. Sara @ Lake Shore Runner says

I haven’t really done the whole juicing thing yet. But I do make lots and lots of smoothies. And sometimes I will add kale or spinach in them for more of a nutritional punch.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/12/2014 at 1:31 pm

I used to drink smoothies but then I was still hungry and felt like I was drinking too many calories

  8. Annmarie says

    12/12/2014 at 12:30 pm

I put veggies in my smoothies every morning but haven’t had just juice in a while and I crave it at times. This looks delicious!

I usually eat a lot of veggies already, but this is a great idea for those times where you aren’t getting what you need. Or maybe for travel?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/12/2014 at 1:36 pm

Hmm yes while traveling sometimes we can get off of our normal veggie routine. Also great for those who don’t eat enough veggies

  10. Jen says

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/12/2014 at 2:37 pm

they were very good and tasted like someone just juiced them for me. I just can’t give up food for juice. Runner Probs!

Ironically, I do a 5-7 day juice cleanse 2/year. Usually after the holidays and after a big training cycle. It’s refreshing and a body reset.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/13/2014 at 2:38 pm

Seriously!! How can you do it? I can’t not eat for that long. Do you exercise while you are on the cleanse?

  14. Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says

    12/13/2014 at 10:53 am

Yep, great concept but I prefer to eat my calories as well! Great review!

    • Deborah Brooks says

  15. Lindsey @One Mother of a Day says

    12/13/2014 at 11:38 am

I have never juiced myself, even though I do have a juicer but just have never used it :/ I want to some day, it always just seems like a lot of work, the clean up and all. Your juices look very refreshing! I have had juice from Juice it Up! and they have always tasted really good! And I don’t get nearly as much veggies as I should every day :/

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/13/2014 at 2:39 pm

It does seem like a lot of work to do it yourself and requires a lot of veggies and a lot of time to clean up. This is a great concept and they were very tasty

  16. Rachel says

    12/13/2014 at 11:59 am

Love this. I used to juice all the time… but when we found out we were moving I packed up my juicer… NOW I wish I knew what box I packed it in to unpack that appliance! 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/13/2014 at 2:39 pm

ha ha! I really like the concept of someone else making it for you and it was so fresh

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/13/2014 at 10:42 pm

I did feel refreshed but I couldn’t survive on juice alone. I am always hungry

  18. Diatta @ Femme Fitale Fit Club says

    12/13/2014 at 5:04 pm

I strongly believe in juicing and this is the 2nd time I have read and heard of them. I am in Baltimore so too far but kudos to DC for getting another quality juice service going!! That’s awesome.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/13/2014 at 10:44 pm

Maybe you can convince them to come to you! I always see your juice hauls and it looks like a lot of work!

  19. Emily @ Whatever Floats Your Oats says

    12/13/2014 at 10:25 pm

The pineapple, squash, and cilantro juice sounds really good. I put spinach in my protein smoothies post-workout but that’s about as adventurous as I’ve gotten so far. 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/13/2014 at 10:45 pm

The Pineapple one was my favorite. I like to eat spinach a lot just not sure if I want to drink it too.

  20. Akaleistar says

    Morning Sunshine sounds good!

  21. RFC says

    12/15/2014 at 10:32 am

I tried juicing for a while. I always felt like it was so wasteful, there was SO much pulp left over, and it cost so much $ just for a few glasses of juice! I keep meaning to try again, my poor juicer is collecting dust in storage. So it would be convenient to have the already-made-juice sent to me!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/15/2014 at 12:05 pm

It does cost a lot to buy all of the veggies to juice on your own. A lot goes into one drink! These were fabulous though
