Spring is the perfect time to revitalize your home gym. Whether you have a dedicated space or just a corner of a room, a thorough spring cleaning can revitalize and create a more inviting environment to workout in. Here are my top tips to get started. This post contains affiliate links.
Spring Clean Your Home Gym
Declutter
Start by removing any unused or broken equipment, as well as any items that don’t belong in your space. This will help to make your gym feel more spacious and organized. Hanging resistance bands on easy to mount hooks is my favorite hack.
Clean Equipment
Dust and wipe down all of your exercise equipment, including bikes, treads, weights and yoga mats. You can use any antibacterial wipes or a mild detergent to remove any sweat or dirt build up. Even if you are the only one who uses it, this is still an important step.
Check for safety issues
Inspect equipment for signs of wear and tear. Items like resistance bands can fray easily and break in use. I like these as a more sturdy alternative. Check cables, plugs and bolts on bikes and treads for any signs of wear.
Organize storage
Shelves, bins and wall hooks help to keep equipment organized and easier to find. This will also help to make your space feel larger. I chose this option to store yoga mats, foam rollers and other equipment.
Refresh your space
Adding some new elements like motivational posters, plants or other decor help to freshen up your home gym space. I love a stack of rolled up small gym towels ready to wipe up that hard earned sweat.
Hope following these simple steps will help to transform your home gym space into a a clean, more organized, and inviting space.
Thanks for helping to make the Runners’ Roundup a huge success by visiting all of the hosts: Me, Debbie, Jen, Lisa
I store my equipment in two wooden crates and it gets quite messy. I like the idea of hanging up resistance bands. I also use your idea of taking the mat with me in the shower now and then. That was a great tip!
Oh yes that is a good one! When I went to yoga outside of the house, I felt my mat was so dirty and that worked so well
My workout area can always use a good cleaning (as can the rest of my house…) It’s fairly organized although I do find random toys in there once in awhile.
ha I am sure you do!
Great ideas for refreshing workout space. My space would really need a complete workover! I usually work out at work or at the gym so I haven’t kept up with keeping my workout space clean and organized.
It feels more inviting to me when it’s all organized 🙂
These are also great tips for setting up a new workout space, as I’ll be undertaking in about nine days (eek! ). It’s not going to be anything plush (quite the opposite, LOL), but I’m hoping to make it a fun, inviting & inspiring space.
You can do a lot with a small space!
These are great tips, I enjoy cleaning my workout area at home! Now my husbands area is a different story!
ha ha I hear that!
This is a great way to get in the Spring swing of things! Safety checks are important too. Machines and equipment can definitely become compromised!
Absolutely
Sigh. my “home gym” is also known as my son’s bedroom. He’s coming home next week which means I’ll be moving everything to my own bedroom temporarily. Well- that would be a good opportunity to do some spring cleaning. Thanks for the inspiration!
Your welcome 🙂 Keep me posted
We recently painted the bedroom in our basement (which is next to my workout area) and all the junk we had stored in there is now in our workout area. It feels so cluttered and I really need to reorganize and get stuff out of there but its so hard to find the time.
It is hard to find time to get it organized but will be so great when you do!
Great tips. I just have a bike. My home gym is the YMCA.
that is helpful!
I love the idea of wiping everything down… that’s always an instant refresh. And the towels are a nice touch!
yes, it feels good to do a little refresh
i wish I had a gym space to refresh! These are all great ideas to keep a home gym clean and bright though.
I definitely enjoy having my own space to exercise in
