It is that time again, the last Friday of what feels like a very long January. I’ve got a few things to Confess and Runfess today. Thanks to Marcia for hosting.
Confessions and Runfessions
I confess and runfess…
I have made it through week 3 of 8 of my Matt Wilpers Winter Run Challenge. Surprisingly, I am enjoying this training so much more than I expected. In the past when I have tried to do speedwork, I have ended up injured. Knock on wood. So far, I am feeling much stronger and seeing results already. I have learned that it is not so easy for me to find my “tempo” pace. I can go slow and steady and I can go fast but finding that sweet spot pace is tough. The challenge has been fun for me. Running and I are in a new phase of our relationship.
I confess and runfess…
I have not created a new recipe for the blog in a few weeks. Wondering if people are still interested in recipes? What types of recipes would you be interested in? Healthy breakfasts? Quick & Easy Lunch ideas? Post run snacks? I would appreciate any feedback you may want to share.
I confess and runfess…
Now that more races are starting to come back, I am looking for some fun fall races. If anyone has any ideas for great half marathons maybe in October let me know. I am looking at the Maine half marathon. Is anyone else interested? Maybe we need a big blogger meetup.
That’s about all I have to confess and runfess today! Hope to see you next week at the Ulitmate Coffee Date with me and Coco.

I already registered. I rented a house with 9 of my friends.
Yes. Go!
Deborah Brooks says
OH how fun! I am looking at it!
Kimberly Hatting says
Come to Iowa! The IMT Des Moines Half is a must-do!! It’s a fun weekend with an optional 5-miler on Saturday 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
hmm maybe-when is that?
Coco says
Wow, Maine! I’m always reluctant to make plans for races because either my body or my job tends to derail my plans.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the training program. It seems to be nicely balanced.
Deborah Brooks says
I do like a fun race-cation. I think you need one on your schedule
Jenny says
Interesting about the running program- he must have it structured really well if you’re feeling stronger and not getting injured. I would imagine you’ll come out of it not only faster but with a better awareness of paces- hopefully you’ll be able to nail in that tempo pace (I agree, it’s hard!)
I’m always interested in recipes that are vegan or can be easily vegan-ized. But I’m probably in the minority here!
Deborah Brooks says
I appreciate the feedback on the recipes. I am not sure where to go with them right now!
Marcia says
Since I am dialing in protein like it is my job lately, I’d love to see some high-protein recipes. Especially snacks. So glad you are still enjoying the running program! I always considered my tempo pace to be 20 seconds slower than my 10k race pace, if that makes any sense.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, protein has become my go to and it has made a huge difference for me. They had us test our tempo pace w a 2 mile run and use that average for starters. I am just trying to stick to that for now but it is easier said than done

I could say ….. Rome Urbs Mundi half marathon on oct. 16th! The route runs in the historical part of Rome near the most famous monuments and through the touristic squares and streets but …. it’s a bit far form your hometown.
Deborah Brooks says
Oh I sure wish I could come to Rome for a race! Maybe one day 🙂

Tempos are hard! They’re my least favorite workout. But they work.
Fingers crossed you finish stronger & injury free!
It can definitely feel good to push yourself sometimes though.
Deborah Brooks says
They are hard but yes, they do work. Excited to see how this goes

There’s a flat trail race along the Des Plaines River in October that I am signed up for. I was supposed to do it last year but broken ankle and foot…any way, I’m doing the half. It’s really pretty and the colors should be popping! Did I mention it’s flat? I’d love to have you run it with me.
I’m always looking for lunch recipes; things I can bring to work.
Deborah Brooks says
ooh that is a nice option. Always love an excuse to visit my daughter too
Renée says
totally understand the “sweet spot” tempo discovery journey! I know years ago I had one, but that is no longer my tempo. I am struggling a lot with training because either it’s too slow (and fine in the beginning but 2nd half feels like I have concrete in my legs) or I do my intervals too fast and can’t cope. I’m so glad you are enjoying your challenge!
I always love your recipes, I’m just not so great at taking the time out to read recipes, shop for them, prep and cook. I’m trying to be less chaotic in the kitchen but it’s definitely a slow process. Plus Ron cooks so often (I am so spoiled, truly).
Deborah Brooks says
It is challenging to find that sweet spot for pacing. It takes lots of patience which is not my strong point either
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
I agree with you, this month has been a longgg one! I saw that the London Marathon posted on IG that January has felt like mile 25 of a marathon haha so true right?
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha that sounds about right!

Tempo runs are hard and my least favorite. Kudos on feeling stronger and seeing results! All of your recipes look yummy. I told myself that one day I need to print them out and make them. I am more interested in healthy breakfast options. I take a shake every morning for work but there are days when I am tired of it and end up buying something from Dunkin Donuts or McDonald’s.
Deborah Brooks says
Tempo runs are hard! Breakfast recipes are my favorite I have a ton of easy ones if you are interested
