Coasting Into February Weekly Run Down

Thanks for joining me and Kim for the weekly run down today. I am coasting right into February. Here is a peek into my week of fitness and running.

weekly run down

Coasting into February

Monday- upper body + core + Peloton Cycle + stretch

Carpe Diem as they say! Starting off my Monday strong. My legs were a little sore today after yesterday’s 9 mile run so I skipped lower body and did a cycle class instead. Denis’ Eminem class was as good as I heard!

coasting into February

Tuesday- 6 mile run + stretch

This week is a cut-back week in my run training program. We are supposed to do straight endurance runs without speed or tempo runs. I was surprised that I actually missed the more structured runs of the last few weeks. Who am I? It was nice to have the sun for today’s run and the temps were nice in the 20’s. Funny, how 20’s feel warm this time of the year.

Wednesday- core + lower body + stretch

I took this week to do a slight cut back in my strength as well. Double core classes and a nice lower body strength class was good for me today.

coasting into February

Thursday- 6 mile run + stretch

It was a rainy day here but temps felt almost springlike in the 40’s. What do runners do when it rains on a run day? We get wet. Coasting through the week with an endurance run.

Friday- upper body + lower body strength + core + Peloton cycle

Another upper body burner today! My butt was still sore from Wednesday’s lower body class so I just did a short one which seemed to help.

coasting into February

Saturday- Rest day with stretch

Rest day longer stretch class and filming some reels. I “really” don’t love “reels” but I am trying to stay up on the trends and do a few each week. Check out my 5 minute run warmup.

Sunday- 9 mile run on the plan

It is going to be another chilly one today! The colder weather is definitely my running sweet spot. This was a cut back week for my running plan and I am just coasting right into February. How about you?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

You had a great week! I love all those moves you do for your warm-up! I hope your 9-miler goes well 😉

The warm ups really help me a lot, especially on these cold days. The wind has died down so it should be a nice day for a run thanks

Well, coasting isn’t how I put it, but it’s all good! I saw your reel! They look really hard to get together. It takes me long enough to get one photo how I like it!

I’m definitely up for running in the 20s these days — as long as I can go in daylight.

      • Deborah Brooks says

        02/06/2022 at 3:58 pm

Yes the reels do take a while but I am getting better at them. It is a definite time suck. The 20’s are great when there is no ice

I love how you’re embracing running in the colder weather! We don’t have to love it, but you can’t deny how good it feels, right? I need to up my miles and that is the plan for February. Going to head out in a bit.

      02/06/2022 at 8:01 am

I really do find it so exhilerating! I know I don’t have as harsh of weather as you do but I will take it over the heat and humidity any day

Glad to hear you’re getting outside. We’re badass.

I ran 8 yesterday. The wind was a killer.

We had one warm day but it rained. Sigh.

Can’t wait to hear about your next half. Not too far away?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/06/2022 at 8:13 am

It also rained on our warm day but I always try to get out anyway bc you never know when it might rain on race day. Yes, my half is March 18 🙂 it is quickly approaching

Great week! I hope your run goes well today.

    • Deborah Brooks says

thanks it was a nice day with lots of sun

  5. Marcia says

Winter running is SO much better than the heat and humidity of summer, IMO. I just wish the roadsides here were a bit clearer. I forgot to check out the Eminem workouts! I need to do that ASAP. Thanks for the reminder.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/06/2022 at 3:58 pm

Yes, they were fun. I am going to do the boxing one this week

  6. Jenny says

    02/06/2022 at 11:32 am

Sounds like you had a great week! When we had our “cold” spell and temps in the 40s- don’t laugh, it felt cold to us- it was amazing how much easier running was. I was shocked to see my heart rate was about 20 beats slower per minute! So yes- getting all bundled up is a hassle, but once you’re out there it feels great.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/06/2022 at 3:59 pm

      Yes, it sure does

  7. Chocolaterunsjudy says

    02/06/2022 at 11:34 am

Sounds like our weeks were a bit similar (but much colder up here, as always).

Endurance runs can definitely be hard but you did it! Great job!

I never set out to stop using IG but I did. There are just only so many hours in a day!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/06/2022 at 3:59 pm

IG is certainly a time suck but right now, it is my favorite social media.

  8. Melissa says

    02/06/2022 at 11:41 am

Yay for getting outside! Today was in the 20s for my walk and I felt warm lol that’s how cold it has been.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/06/2022 at 4:00 pm

      Yes, exactly!

  9. Liz Dexter says

    02/06/2022 at 12:02 pm

It was my self-imposed cut-back week this week, too, which is handy, as I came down with some kind of stomach bug yesterday and have missed today’s run, and stretches and squats all weekend. Oh, well. I also realised we hear whether we got into the London Marathon this month, which I had forgotten! Oops!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/06/2022 at 4:00 pm

WoOh no hope you are feeling better! The London marathon? wow! Keep us posted

  10. Cari says

    02/06/2022 at 12:18 pm

    We get wet indeed!
I texted someone yesterday that ~ 20 was a tropical heat wave. It’s so refreshing, which just isn’t true of most other seasons’ running
COngrats on a solid cutback week
Queen of Everything indeed. As well we should be

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/06/2022 at 4:01 pm

20’s did feel like spring out there today! It is funny how our perspective changes

I just learned something new from your reel – around the clock lunges! That is a nice quick warmup that I will try out. I’ve been so out of habit of pre run warm ups. I did have the luxury of doing a warm up and a post run stretch after a run this week. That’s unheard of for me! It’s that balance of getting just enough sleep and just enough time for my morning run. You’re doing a great job on the reels!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/06/2022 at 4:02 pm

The around the clock lunges are my favorite they feel so good and loosen everything up

  12. Debbie @ Deb Runs says

    02/06/2022 at 1:08 pm

You had a very active cut-back week.

I don’t like reels either and I haven’t figured out how to silence the music without turning the volume down on my phone (is there another way?). Kudos to you for taking the plunge and staying up on the trend. I feel like I’m experiencing a generation gap with my refusal to make them or enjoy reels. LOL

Thanks for the linkup and have a great week!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/06/2022 at 4:02 pm

yes, you can tap the sound button in the bottom right of a reel and it will silence it. It can be disconcerting when the music just blares out!

  13. Jessie says

    02/06/2022 at 1:39 pm

Awesome week Deborah! I’m so glad you’re enjoying your training program. You’ll be race ready for sure!

And thanks for the suggestion on the Elyse Kopecky cooking classes. Dustin and I are doing the Valentine’s Day one tonight. There is a cocktail, a salad, pasta, chicken, AND dessert. SO many dishes, so I did a ton of prep yesterday as the class is only 90 minutes and I feel like I would otherwise be rushing around trying to keep up, so anything that i could do ahead of time, I did. ha!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/06/2022 at 4:03 pm

I cannot wait to hear about it!

  14. Kim G says

    02/06/2022 at 3:14 pm

I love that 5 minute pre-run warm up reel that you posted. All those moves, especially the hip circles, really help me before a run. Although i haven’t gotten out for many Winter runs this season, I love cold weather running a lot more than summer running.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/06/2022 at 4:03 pm

Thanks they are my go to warm ups and make a big difference for me

You lived up to that mug this week – “Queen of Everything” – well done for getting it done and looking fabulous doing it!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/07/2022 at 9:49 am

thanks so much have a great week ahead!

  16. Jenn says

    02/07/2022 at 3:41 pm

    All hail the Queen!

I prefer a little more structure to my runs, as well. I just like to know the direction of how things are going.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/07/2022 at 5:26 pm

I am also enjoying the structure

  17. MCM Mama says

    02/07/2022 at 5:01 pm

I confess I can’t get into reels. I don’t see the point of most of the ones on Insta. At least the one you just shared at least had a purpose for being video instead of still.

I’m over winter. I used to like cold weather running, but not any more…

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/07/2022 at 5:27 pm

The cold weather runs are going well for me right now so I am just rolling with it
