As we all are most likely aware, the holiday season can be stressful to say the least! Despite all of our organizing, things don’t always go as planned do they? There were lots of Holiday workouts and challenges floating around last month so when Jen at Burpees For Breakfast offered to let me try out her Holiday Boot Camp for a few weeks, I “jumped” on it.
Jen (Burpees For Breakfast) is personal trainer and health & wellness coach who offers up both tailor made fitness plans and group boot camps. I participated in 2 weeks of her Pre-Holiday Boot Camp last month.
Each week, Jen will email participants the workouts for the upcoming week along with a link to a youtube video that demos some of the moves. She is a stickler for form, which I love and think is key. Here is a look at one of her youtube videos:
I initially thought it was a little overwhelming but as soon as I saw her demo each move and show exactly what she was looking for, it all made sense. I am a visual person when it comes to exercise and I appreciated seeing her demo each move specifically. You can find more videos on her Youtube channel.
The workouts in my 2 week trial were full body and most required no equipment at all. There is a nice mix of tabata and HITT style. To increase the intensity, you could add weights or sets to some of the moves. I was able to complete all the workouts in 20-25 min.
I believe that Jen’s workouts are appropriate for all fitness levels. Many are time based so that, depending on your current level, you can perform as many or as little reps each time. Also a great way to see you improvements. There were a few days that I did the workouts after running and did not want to jump or have impact. I was able to easily modify the moves to fit this.
If you are looking for some help with your exercise goals, participating in one of Jen’s Boot Camps is a great and economical way to get personal attention without the price tag of a traditional personal trainer. Her groups are priced very reasonably and vary depending on length. (weeks)
I loved Jen’s down to earth, bubbly personality. She is someone that seems real and that’s a plus for me in personal trainer.
Now that Jen has teamed up with Jill for their Inspired To Be Fit program they will also be offering weekly workouts, nutritional advice and fitness education. Those two are sure to be a powerhouse team!
Did you participate in any Holiday Challenges? How did it go?
Linking up with Nicole and Jill
That looks like fun! I am with you, I need a visual, what seems like a good or easy move to one person doesn’t to someone else! I started with Marcia this week and I have 1 HIIT workout on my schedule 🙂 TGIF!
Ah great I hope you enjoy that too! have a great weekend
This sounds like an awesome “class”! I didn’t really participate in any holiday challenges, but I’m starting a 21 day reset on Monday with Laura from Mommy Run Fast and very excited about it!
She is a great motivator for sure! The 21 reset should be good. I did something similar last year. Oftentimes they are hard for me bc they are not vegetarian. I should start my own!
My friend was actually looking for something like this to do at home with videos. I am going to share with her!
Oh great I am sure Jen would be happy to help her out!
Thanks so much for this awesome review, Deborah! I’m glad you enjoyed your two weeks and I’m glad the video demos were helpful. I’m making sure they are included in every boot camp moving forward! 🙂
I think the videos are a great help. It’s so much easier to understand exactly how to perform an exercise when you can see someone do it. And your form is great! Thanks for letting me peek in and observe
This sounds like fun! I didn’t participate in any holiday workout challenges, but I am working on my own goals. I always feel like I need something that is more individualized, but challenges can be lots of fun to do.
Challenges can be fun but I agree that you can tailor them to your own goals as well. Happy Friday!
How much fun! I’ve never done a challenge, but they always look like fun!
It was fun to participate in and always great to learn some new moves to add to my routine
I’m doing no challenges…. I do enough as is. But I do love that you try all these different things… I’m always happy to try a new class to see how it is.
I love to try out new things all the time! You never know when you might find something new that you absolutely love right?
Jen is the best! She always has amazing workouts.
She does and her form is spot on
I really enjoy timed workouts. Makes me push to get in more reps. I half heartedly did Sweatpink’s holiday sweat. I worked out but getting on to log freggies is more than I cared to handle
I gave up after a few weeks of logging everything everywhere I couldn’t keep up!
This sounds like a great way to do a challenge! I love that there are videos included and the concentration of form. A lot of time I see descriptions for home workouts but I’m not sure what the type of exercise actually means so the video would have come in handy.
Exactly! I really think the videos are key to doing the exercises correctly
I like at home workouts like this for when I’m short on time. Though I don’t exercise at home too often because I find I don’t push myself as hard.
I do not push myself as hard at home either but I liked learning some of these new moves
Nice review! I’m finding out there are so many great options out there for workouts to try, I’ll definitely check it oiut!
She does have a few different programs available and she has a great personality
I love this and love follow Burpees for breakfast. This sounds like it was a great workout and program. I didn’t stick with any holiday challenges, just tried to live normally and not get to far off track.
She does have a great blog and lots of great workouts to offer
That looks like fun and I also LOVE that she is a stickler for good form! I didn’t participate in any holiday challenges but am ready to get back at it 🙂
Good form makes such a difference and keeps you from getting hurt too
Sounds like a great way to get some workouts in at home! Great that the workout requires no equipment so it can be done anywhere. I didn’t really participate in any challenges over the holidays but I’m doing a plankaday challenge now and it’s going well!
ooh the plan a day i did that last year they get hard quickly don’t they?!
This is great!!! I’m a visual person, too, and just from this one video it looks like this will be an awesome program. Thanks for the review!!
Oh good I am glad that you found it helpful. I need to see what I am supposed to do in order to do it better.
Fun! I really need to do more challenges, other than my friends Beachbody ones…
It is always fun to try out something new!
Love Jen’s workouts too! She is a great motivator for sure!
thanks for that great review. Jen sounds like an awesome trainer and I like how she is a stickler for form. I know I did not partake in any challenges but I know I need to do something soon. I am not liking how I look in my clothes
Jen’s workouts are great and I love that she focuses on form too. I fell off my regular schedule over the holidays too so it’s nice to be back on track. Have a great weekend
I have no doubt Jen’s bootcamp will kick butt in the best ways possible!
Thanks for sharing with Living a Life of Fitness Health & Happiness Deborah. Have a great weekend!
Absolutely! She is a great trainer. 🙂
That sounds like a great challenge! I did the Kinetic Revolution challenge on instagram (2 strength moves a day for the month of December). The Inspired to be Fit program sounds like it will be very interesting!
Ah I didn’t know about that one on IG. Anything that gets you going during the holidays is good right?
Looks like a great options for at-home workouts.
She does a great job!
What an awesome review! I didn’t do any holiday challenges, but it’s time to start getting back into shape 🙂
I was happy to be back on my regular schedule this week of exercise and eating
I did the runner’s world run streak and nailed it. ;o)
Sounds like you got a great workout!
I know you did! Congrats
I started participating in the SweatPink Holiday Sweat challenge. But eventually I stopped. It was too much. We had to post our workouts and our food. I couldn’t keep up with it.
I don’t really need anyone to push me to workout. If I do a challenge I want it to be fun. I really like the yoga challenges. A pose a day? I can do that.
I felt the same way about the sweat pink challenge. It was a little much to keep posting everywhere and I thought it was a little salesy
Oh I love Jen so much, this whole post made me smile! She’s fantastic and I just love her youtube videos!! Glad you were able to have a great experience with her and got in your workouts when you were busy with the holidays!!
She is a great coach! It was fun to try it out
I have never tried a bootcamp but I know it is popular in the US. I will check out the video.
She is a great coach and her form is spot on!
Good job. My only holiday (+post) challenge is getting to a new 5:30am spinning class. Waking up at 5am has given me jet lag but it’s such great x-training.
That is seriously impressive! I don’t do anything at 5 am unless I have to 🙂 Thanks for stopping in today
I tried to participate in the Holiday Sweat challenge with Fit Approach, but with how much I was slowing down during the last weeks of my pregnancy, and then not being able to exercise at all during the last two weeks of it, I didn’t get to participate like I had intended to. There’s always next year though!
Yes for sure! I found it to be a little much this year there were a lot of posting requirements and advertising
Ahh I love Jen!! She’s so knowledgeable. We need more people like her in the industry!
Yes, you are so right – a visual makes the world of difference!
She is a great teacher and yes her videos were spot on. It was fun to review
Great review! I think the videos before each week’s workout is a great idea!
I am very visual so it helped me a lot!
