    • As we all are most likely aware, the holiday season can be stressful to say the least! Despite all of our organizing, things don’t always go as planned do they? There were lots of Holiday workouts and challenges floating around last month so when Jen at Burpees For Breakfast offered to let me try out her Holiday Boot Camp for a few weeks, I “jumped” on it.
    • Jen (Burpees For Breakfast) is personal trainer and health & wellness coach who offers up both tailor made fitness plans and group boot camps. I participated in 2 weeks of her Pre-Holiday Boot Camp last month.
    • Each week, Jen will email participants the workouts for the upcoming week along with a link to a youtube video that demos some of the moves. She is a stickler for form, which I love and think is key. Here is a look at one of her youtube videos:
    • I initially thought it was a little overwhelming but as soon as I saw her demo each move and show exactly what she was looking for, it all made sense. I am a visual person when it comes to exercise and I appreciated seeing her demo each move specifically. You can find more videos on her Youtube channel.
    • The workouts in my 2 week trial were full body and most required no equipment at all. There is a nice mix of tabata and HITT style. To increase the intensity, you could add weights or sets to some of the moves. I was able to complete all the workouts in 20-25 min.
    • I believe that Jen’s workouts are appropriate for all fitness levels. Many are time based so that, depending on your current level, you can perform as many or as little reps each time. Also a great way to see you improvements. There were a few days that I did the workouts after running and did not want to jump or have impact. I was able to easily modify the moves to fit this.
    • If you are looking for some help with your exercise goals, participating in one of Jen’s Boot Camps is a great and economical way to get personal attention without the price tag of a traditional personal trainer. Her groups are priced very reasonably and vary depending on length. (weeks)
    • I loved Jen’s down to earth, bubbly personality. She is someone that seems real and that’s a plus for me in personal trainer.
    • Now that Jen has teamed up with Jill for their Inspired To Be Fit program they will also be offering weekly workouts, nutritional advice and fitness education. Those two are sure to be a powerhouse team!
  • Did you participate in any Holiday Challenges? How did it go?

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

That looks like fun! I am with you, I need a visual, what seems like a good or easy move to one person doesn’t to someone else! I started with Marcia this week and I have 1 HIIT workout on my schedule 🙂 TGIF!

This sounds like an awesome “class”! I didn’t really participate in any holiday challenges, but I’m starting a 21 day reset on Monday with Laura from Mommy Run Fast and very excited about it!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/08/2016 at 7:41 am

She is a great motivator for sure! The 21 reset should be good. I did something similar last year. Oftentimes they are hard for me bc they are not vegetarian. I should start my own!

My friend was actually looking for something like this to do at home with videos. I am going to share with her!

Thanks so much for this awesome review, Deborah! I’m glad you enjoyed your two weeks and I’m glad the video demos were helpful. I’m making sure they are included in every boot camp moving forward! 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/08/2016 at 3:52 pm

I think the videos are a great help. It’s so much easier to understand exactly how to perform an exercise when you can see someone do it. And your form is great! Thanks for letting me peek in and observe

This sounds like fun! I didn’t participate in any holiday workout challenges, but I am working on my own goals. I always feel like I need something that is more individualized, but challenges can be lots of fun to do.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/08/2016 at 3:56 pm

Challenges can be fun but I agree that you can tailor them to your own goals as well. Happy Friday!

I’m doing no challenges…. I do enough as is. But I do love that you try all these different things… I’m always happy to try a new class to see how it is.

    • Deborah Brooks says

She does and her form is spot on

  9. Marcia says

I really enjoy timed workouts. Makes me push to get in more reps. I half heartedly did Sweatpink’s holiday sweat. I worked out but getting on to log freggies is more than I cared to handle

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/08/2016 at 4:00 pm

I gave up after a few weeks of logging everything everywhere I couldn’t keep up!

  10. Chaitali says

    01/08/2016 at 10:11 am

This sounds like a great way to do a challenge! I love that there are videos included and the concentration of form. A lot of time I see descriptions for home workouts but I’m not sure what the type of exercise actually means so the video would have come in handy.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/08/2016 at 4:01 pm

Exactly! I really think the videos are key to doing the exercises correctly

  11. Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says

    01/08/2016 at 10:17 am

I like at home workouts like this for when I’m short on time. Though I don’t exercise at home too often because I find I don’t push myself as hard.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/08/2016 at 4:03 pm

I do not push myself as hard at home either but I liked learning some of these new moves

Sounds like a great way to get some workouts in at home! Great that the workout requires no equipment so it can be done anywhere. I didn’t really participate in any challenges over the holidays but I’m doing a plankaday challenge now and it’s going well!

I started participating in the SweatPink Holiday Sweat challenge. But eventually I stopped. It was too much. We had to post our workouts and our food. I couldn’t keep up with it.

I don’t really need anyone to push me to workout. If I do a challenge I want it to be fun. I really like the yoga challenges. A pose a day? I can do that.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/08/2016 at 10:05 pm

I felt the same way about the sweat pink challenge. It was a little much to keep posting everywhere and I thought it was a little salesy

  26. Sam @ PancakeWarriors says

    01/08/2016 at 10:57 pm

Oh I love Jen so much, this whole post made me smile! She’s fantastic and I just love her youtube videos!! Glad you were able to have a great experience with her and got in your workouts when you were busy with the holidays!!

Good job. My only holiday (+post) challenge is getting to a new 5:30am spinning class. Waking up at 5am has given me jet lag but it’s such great x-training.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2016 at 1:29 pm

That is seriously impressive! I don’t do anything at 5 am unless I have to 🙂 Thanks for stopping in today

  29. Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says

    01/09/2016 at 11:21 am

I tried to participate in the Holiday Sweat challenge with Fit Approach, but with how much I was slowing down during the last weeks of my pregnancy, and then not being able to exercise at all during the last two weeks of it, I didn’t get to participate like I had intended to. There’s always next year though!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      01/09/2016 at 1:34 pm

Yes for sure! I found it to be a little much this year there were a lot of posting requirements and advertising

  30. Jess @hellotofit says

    01/09/2016 at 12:42 pm

Ahh I love Jen!! She’s so knowledgeable. We need more people like her in the industry!
Yes, you are so right – a visual makes the world of difference!

    • Deborah Brooks says
