Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down today. I was ready for some mother daughter time again and opted for a quick visit this weekend. I am blowing into the Windy City for quality time with her and a fun run with some Chicago bloggers.
Blowing in for a weekend in the Windy City
Monday- upper body + core + mobility + Peloton cycle + foam roll
It might be a holiday but this girl hates to miss a Monday of fitness. A little bit of everything today to start the week. When my husband offered to go for a walk in our strange 60 degree February weather, I joined him for that too.
Tuesday-5 mile run + stretching
Today was an endurance run with no specified paces. We woke up to temps that are more like April and it was almost 60 when I finished my run. I was way overdressed. Everything is blooming so early! We even found this Cherry Blossom tree.
Wednesday- Core + mobility + full body strength + foam rolling
A productive Workout Wednesday over here. I added in a little more stretching and foam rolling to some spots Iโve been neglecting. Iโve been feeling some little plantar fasciitis twinges in my heel. I do not have time for that! LOL. Cure more calf rolling.
I shared some of my go to warm up moves.

Thursday- 4.5 mile progression run + stretching & mobility
Today was a really weird weather day! It was 50 when we headed out and almost 70 and hour later. Because it had rained the night before, it was also really humid. None of us really knew what to wear. My workout was a progression run (basically a negative split). I started a bit too fast for the intervals and really struggled to hold that last one.
Friday- Peloton stretch + travel to Chicago
I got an extra rest day today. Although I did manage to walk a few miles in both airports. I am in Chicago for a quick visit with my daughter and to meet my grand pup โMarlinโ. I can attest this is the โWindy Cityโ. Walking off of the plane to temps in the 20โs was a shock after our 80 degree day yesterday!
Saturday-10 mile run ๐โโ๏ธ + stretch
I had a fantastic time running with Wendy and Cynthia on the Lakefront trail. The miles just flew by! We also had a quick photo op with Erica. How lucky am I to have running friends in so many cities! Yes, Wendy and I were twinning in our Brooks gear.
I spent the afternoon brunching and shopping around with my daughter. A great day all around! I am tired.
Sunday- Rest day and fly home
I will be having brunch with my daughter and then flying home. It was a quick weekend blowing into the Windy City!

What a great whirlwind weekend in the Windy City! Also, looks like you had a great week of fitness (no surprise there). After a cold week, our weather is acting weird as wellโฆsupposed to be in the mid-50โs for Sunday! Heat wave!
Deborah Brooks says
Ooh that is a heat wave! Enjoy
Melissa says
With a fun time in Chicago! We had some cold weather and then warm weather and then snow again.
Deborah Brooks says
It was a whirlwind week for sure!
Wendy says
I still can’t believe you were here–except that my legs are reminding me about our run! It was so great to see and spend time with you. I think the only thing we didn’t talk about was your grandpup!. So cute! Thank you for another happy run!
Deborah Brooks says
It was so fab to see you! We could have talked for many more hours. My legs were tired last night but I feel good today. Thanks again for coming in!
Marcia says
I can’t believe its so warm in DC when we are still quite wintery here. Glad you enjoyed your time in the Windy City. Your grand pup is adorable!
Deborah Brooks says
Sorry I missed you hope to see you next time!

What a fun trip. Daughter time and blogger time. Perfect.
Deborah Brooks says
A great combo for sure
Debbie says
Awww, Marlin is a cutie!
How fun to see your daughter and blogging friends while in Chicago! I miss my visits there and running along the Lakefront Trail.
Our neighbor’s cherry tree is in full bloom and looked so pretty during yesterday’s snow.
Deborah Brooks says
It is a fab place to run and very flat. I am glad that Chicago is so easy to get to from DC
Coco says
That is a quick trip to Chicago, but sounds like you are fitting in the important things โ running, shopping and brunching!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, short trip and fit it all in!
Michelle says
What a fun trip! And your grandpup is a cutie ๐ Enjoy the day with your daughter and safe travels home!
Deborah Brooks says
thanks a quick but fun and productive weekend
Jenny says
Wow, that is some crazy weather- no wonder you were confused about what to wear. For your Thursday run you could have ended it comfortably in tank top and shorts- but who would think to put that on in February up there.
Anyway, your trip to Chicago sounds amazing! How fun that you got to have a little blogger meetup. And omg Marlin is adorable!
Deborah Brooks says
I def could have been in shorts on Thursday it was so weird! Chicago was quick and fun. Marlin is too cute!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
What a cute dog! You know that’s the first thing I’d notice. ๐
Sound like it was a great quickie. Not gonna lie, a bit envious of your weather. Cherry blossoms are always so pretty!
Deborah Brooks says
Our weather was just crazy this week! We dropped 50 degrees in 24 hours while I was gone. yes, Marlin is just adorable!
Liz Dexter says
How lovely to get a meetup, and love the twin gear, too. Do you interact with the international Brooks people – my friend Rahema is one of their UK runners?
I’m still at “sitting on a small ball and agonising my glute” stage of my current running comeback but it’s nice to see how everyone’s doing now i’m clear(ish) of the subsequent virus (this is why I run 20 miles per week: immune system!).
Deborah Brooks says
The glutes tightness always comes and goes for me too! I interact w the Canadian Brooks runners a lot but donโt know many of the other international ones. I would love to though!
Susanne says
Those are some really nice temperatures (except Chicago)! How nice you got spend time with your daughter and granddog, and run with Wendy too. We have annoyingly cold weather, although much warmer than many places in the US. But since I’ve almost only been running since late November, this kind of weather is normal and I’ll be confused when we get warmer weather and will struggle with what to wear when I go running!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh I would much rather have cold for running!
Jessie says
Such wonderful photos from your Chicago run! Looks like a blast.
And the grandpup is sooo cute!!! Love Corgis. The Queen’s dog ๐
Deborah Brooks says
The corgis are too cute with those ears! I had a great time running with the Chicago girls. Its a fun city to run in
Jenn says
More Marlin, please! He is a cutie!
I’m glad you had a great time with your daughter and that you were able to hang and run with the ladies!
Deborah Brooks says
He really is a cutie!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Sounds like a fun visit! Love that you were twinning with the Brooks gear. That trail along the waterfront is a really nice place to run. I remember it from my visit there. And the whacky Garmin miles! Great workouts this week. Maybe we’ll see some more warm temps like that again soon!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes the Garmin was a little wacky at first but seemed to straighten out. That happens to me in NYC too. I had a great ice with Wendy!
