      • Thank you all for the birthday wishes the past few days. I am happy to report that my birthday week came and went without the addition of another grey hair! Every year around my birthday, I have this over whelming urge to prove how young and invincible I am. LOL Sound familiar?
      • I love to do a race right around my birthday and thankfully Veteran’s Day falls in the same week which is a great opportunity. This year, my MRTT friends and I participated in a rare Wednesday 10k to honor the occasion.
      • It was a beautiful warm November day and we all took some time to appreciate all of those who have served for our country.
      • Of course we love to cheer each other on in true MRTT form with a wave line at the finish. I love this “Moms Salute This Town” tank and whip it out a few times a year.
      • So many of my MRTT moms came out on Saturday morning for my official birthday run followed by breakfast. What a great way to start out my birthday! Love all these girls
      • Headed to downtown DC that night for a nice dinner with my 2 favorite guys.
      • Finished off the night with a slice of my favorite yellow cake with chocolate frosting. Yum!
  • Perfect way to spend my birthday!
      • Knock on wood-my foot and plantar issues of earlier this year seem to be better for now. I have been adding back on the miles and feeling really great about my running.
      • So in true “me” fashion, I started signing up for tons of races. Next week I have a Thanksgiving Day 10k and a Girls on The Run 5k this weekend. I have signed up for an indoor tri in January and I am hoping to get into Cherry Blossom this April. I am about to register for a relay race and a half marathon. Someone stop me!
  • Are you motivated to sign up for races around your birthday or right after coming back from an injury?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

I am usually in the thick of race season already when my birthday rolls around in June. However, coming back from injury of any sort is usually a prompt to get back out there and do all the things! Races are as much about the social element for me as they are the competition.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/18/2015 at 7:56 am

I know! I have major FOMO when everyone is out there and I am not

I’m so glad your plantar has subsided, too. Sending good vibes for a great year ahead!

What fun! I signed up for a race on/near/for my birthday one year. And it was my first DNS because I was so sick the week preceding! Glad that you have better luck 😀

Can’t think of a better way to spend a birthday than starting it with a run with friends….I also always want to try to do something new and “badass” on my birthday….Sounds like you have a lot of fun events coming up! Enjoy!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/18/2015 at 11:24 am

The best way to spend my birthday for sure. Can’t wait to see what bad ass idea you come up with 🙂

  12. Jen @ Pretty Little Grub says

    11/18/2015 at 9:57 am

Ha ha, so many races! I’ve never really felt the pressure around my birthday to race but then again it’s during the winter and in Canada that’s not really prime racing season.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/18/2015 at 11:25 am

Our race season slows down after November but that doesn’t stop me from signing up for spring races

  13. Elle says

    Happy Birthday!
    I love a race on/near your birthday – sweet 🙂
This made me chuckle, I have been battling a PF flare up, but that didn’t stop me from signing up for two more races…
The PF is annoying. Glad you are feeling better.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/18/2015 at 3:35 pm

Oh PF is the worst! I was out for 3 months last winter. Hope yours if feeling better too. Sleeping with the sock helped a lot and so did massage

Can’t be a birthday without cake!!! I love yellow cake and chocolate frosting!!!

Let’s try to meet up at the Turkey Chase-it’s my first time running it. Have you run it before?

I am hoping to get into Cherry Blossom too….oooo an indoor Tri-tell me more!

I have been hesitant to sign up for races next year because of my knee but the itch is real and I may not be able to contain it-lol!!!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/18/2015 at 3:38 pm

Oh yes lets try to meet up at Turkey Chase! I did it a few years ago it is crowded and kind of hilly but fun. Cherry Blossom yes! The indoor tri is at Lifetime fitness on Jan 3. I think I can email you a link in a few

  18. Beverley Cheng says

    11/18/2015 at 1:38 pm

Happy Birthday my dear! I love how you celebrate by going out and kicking butt in a race, rather then spending it with a bottle of wine haha (or two). Looking lovely as always!

Sounds like a great birthday celebration! And I love the idea of a mid-week race to honor Veteran’s Day. Too bad not everybody has off from work on Veteran’s Day so that more people can participate.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/18/2015 at 9:36 pm

It was a great way to spend the day!

  23. Kristy @Runaway Bridal Planner says

    11/18/2015 at 6:06 pm

I am a few days behind this week, sorry I didn’t stop by sooner to send you wishes. But I do hope you had the Happiest of Birthdays and I love that race on/around on your birthday! Seriously, what greater way to spend it!
I have always wanted to run a marathon on my birthday, one day I will make it happen!
Also, super happy to hear your PF issues haven’t been bothering you. I know that can be a difficult one to come back from, so that is just awesome!!! Good luck in all the upcoming races, sounds like you have quite the fun race calendar!!!!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      11/18/2015 at 9:37 pm

thanks! Yes it has been a great couple of weeks for running. I did a half marathon on my birthday in Vegas a few years ago now that’s the way to go!
