August 2024 has felt like such a long month for me! I’m ready to share a few runfessions and confessions to close out the month. Thanks to Marcia for hosting.
August 2024 Runfessions and Confessions
I runfessions and confess…
Sometimes my Garmin just makes me go hmmm…While driving home from Philadelphia last weekend, I got 2 worried texts at the same time from my kids wanting to know if I was ok? They both received the message below from Garmin. Hmmm…My watch was not currently on me but in my bag sitting at my feet. No idea why it sent this message to my kids. It was reassuring that they both responded quickly and a great test of our family Emergency Broadcasting System.
This happened once before many years ago. I was on my bike with the watch actually on and in bike mode. We were descending a cobblestone street that was very bouncy. Garmin sent the same message to my kids. That time, however, I thought it was warranted due to the terrain we were on. I just hope it actually works if and when I need it to!
I runfess and Confess…
I realized that I have not been on my Peloton all summer long! I got into hiking classes and weighted vest workouts and have been doing those as my non running cardio all summer. I’m sure I will go back to the bike when winter hits. I’ve now had it for 6 years and there is so much other content to try now! Do you think my favorite cycle instructors have noticed I have been AWOL? LOL!
That’s about all I have to runfess and confess for August 2024. See you next week at the Ultimate Coffee Date.

Yikes to that emergency alert! I wonder what triggered it? And I wonder if my boys would even respond, lol. I might have to add my future DIL as an emergency contact.
Deborah Brooks says
It was so odd! Glad my kids responded quickly lol
Jenny says
Yes, I’m sure the Peloton instructors have been saying worriedly, “Where is Deborah???” Lol. And, well I guess it’s good to know that the Garmin emergency alert works! It would be better if it only worked when you really needed it though. I’m sure your kids were momentarily alarmed by that message!
Deborah Brooks says
my kid were alarmed! It is nice to know I can count on them 🙂

…and I didn’t even know my Garmin had that feature (or maybe I’ve just forgotten? There has been a mess of #ish on my plate in recent years m, LOL). I have not done many bike classes since they changed their subscriptions, so I’m kind of out of the loop in that regard.
Deborah Brooks says
I had forgotten I set up that feature on Garmin but I guess it’s good to have just in case.
Michelle says
So bizzare about the Garmin message! I’m sure that was so concerning for your kids.
I haven’t been on my Peloton bike much either – we moved things around during the remodel and we still need to set up the home gym. Kinda nice to take a break and change things up a bit.
Deborah Brooks says
It is nice to change things up sometimes! Glad I am not the only one 🙂

I accidentally hit the emergency button on my Apple watch and that sent a text to (11 and my hubby.
I have not ridden my stationary at all… I usually ride it when I’m injured but I should do it more often. Itrs a great workout.
Deborah Brooks says
I don’t even know how to activate it on my own! I guess I should investigate that too
Marcia says
That Garmin alert is crazy! How scary for your kids! I think it’s great you found new things to do and changed things up a bit. The bike will be there when you’re ready!
Deborah Brooks says
It is good to mix things up! Not sure what is going on with Garmin!
Jenn says
You know, I was wondering if you broke up with Peloton! Glad to see you are back in action!
Wild how your kids got those alerts! I hope it works in a real emergency too!
Deborah Brooks says
I hope so too it was a very strange alert
Cari says
The Apple watch has had some weird notifications too. Grateful for them but like you, also hope they show up if we (hopefully never) need it.
Deborah Brooks says
yes exactly!
