Hello April! Let’s chat over a cut of coffee. It’s time for the month Ultimate Coffee Date. Grab your favorite mug and fill it up. Let’s catch up! These are all thoughts I’ve had from my recent travels.

April 2025 Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…

On my recent airline travels, I was really surprised by how many younger (than me) women who needed assistance stowing their carry on bags in the overhead bins. One of my major longevity goals to remain as independent and capable for as long as possible. If you are not lifting weights, start now. It’s never too late to get stronger. I’m most likely preaching to the choir here on this blog, so remind someone you know to start lifting heavy things.

Coffee Date April

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…

It’s amazing how many steps you can get in at the airport! Admittedly, I love getting there  bit early so that I do have time to pop on a Peloton walking class and get some movement before sitting on a flight. Front loading steps on a travel day assures that I get them in. Anything extra is a bonus.

5 things I never wear to the airport

If we were having coffee, I would tell you..

Speaking of airline travels…I am an aisle person always. So, if someone sits next to you in the middle seat, do they automatically get both of the arm rests? Not only did the man sitting next to me sit down with a winter coat on when it was 70 degree out but he also turned off the air vents above us. I was so hot that I had already taken off my sweatshirt and was in a tank. I promptly turned back on my air vents above us.

And finally, if we were having coffee, I would tell you that I have a real coffee and lunch date today with my cohost Coco and also Cari. So gotta run!!

Keep lifting heavy things, Deborah! The importance of strength training, especially as we get older, is not appreciated by most. And way to stand your ground by turning your air vent back on! Have fun at your real coffee date!

You know I completely agree with this!

So very much agreed with you on strength training — it is so important! <3

I'm a window seat person because I'm usually out like a light shortly after takeoff, hehe.

Hope you have fun at your real coffee date!

yes to strength training and yes we did

We just landed in Zurich this morning after the 11-hour haul from Cape Town. I had almost the exact same thought as you—only mine hit me at the baggage carousel.
It was surprising how many women struggled to lift their suitcases off the belt! Just like with the overhead bins—it really shows how useful strength training is for everyday things. Definitely extra motivation to keep lifting heavy!

      04/04/2025 at 3:54 pm

yes! I completely agree so important

Yes! If we don’t lift weights, we’ll just get weaker and weaker- and that can only lead to bad things. Very glad I got over my aversion to strength training. I still don’t love it, but my future self will thank me.
It’s funny that you’re having a real coffee date with Coco today! And Cari! I hope you girls have fun.

your future self will absolutely thank you

If I need help with the overhead, it’s usually due to my height — if it’s an empty bin and my bag slid to the back. 😉

I also prefer the aisle but usually turn the vents off because I’m usually cold — unless it’s hot. It’s always one extreme or the other.

    See you soon!

It sure is! Great to see you as well

Enjoy the lunch date! My youngest daughter is 5 feet tall when she stretches, so while she is plenty strong, she was nervous about reaching the overhead bin when she started flying alone. Thankfully she can still do it, although there are many people offering to help as well. Personally I can’t imagine not having the strength to hoist a bag but like you said, preaching to the choir. Ha! I am aisle seat all the way as well.

I am always surprised by how many women struggle with it! Cheers to growing stronger

While I’m tall, and an aisle seat “fits” better for leg room, I get REALLY annoyed if the other peeps need in/out, LOL. I’ve never thought about the weight of luggage; I’m thankful it’s never been an issue. Like you, I want to stay strong & self-sufficient, now and in years to come.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/04/2025 at 3:56 pm

      Yes, exactly!

  8. Michelle says

    04/04/2025 at 8:44 am

Definitely preaching to the choir on the strength training. My challenge on flights is my height, but so far I’ve still managed.

How great to be seeing Coco and Cari! Have fun!!

It was fun to see them as always!

I agree on staying strong to manage bags for travel and I am always amazed by how many people are in wheelchairs. I also do a lot of airport walking if I’m delayed or have a layover. It totally makes sense!

Enjoy lunch with Coco and Cari!

Yes staying strong for life is key! I did have fun with Cari and Coco 🙂

On my way home from Cali, a very kind man tried to help me with my bag. ‘No thanks, I got this’. Feels good, right?

I am a window person. I like to look out the window. But don’t get me started on the armrests…

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/05/2025 at 7:02 am

It sure does feel good but I do appreciate the chivalry 🙂 I always have to go to the bathroom so aisle it is 🙂

  11. Zenaida Arroyo says

    04/05/2025 at 2:38 pm

Wait, that man turned off your air vent too? Rude. I like both window and aisle. If it is a short flight and I know I don’t have to use the bathroom, I prefer the window seat. But when I do have an aisle seat, I hate having to get up when the other passengers need to exit. 🙂

ha it’s a dilemma for sure!

I hope you had a fun lunch. Where did you east?

    I’m an aisle person too.

I also like to get in my steps at the airport.
