Adventures on One Happy Island Weekly Run Down

Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down today. As I am sure you have seen from my IG, we are in Aruba this week. Here is a peek into my week of fitness and running adventures on One Happy Island. I tried to plan a few fun activities for us to do and venture out to see some of the lesser-known spots on this trip. I also tried to keep up some semblance of my regular workout routine.

weekly run down

Sunday- 3.1 mile run + core + stretch

I got a much later start than expected to my run today. It was tough adjusting back to the temps in the mid 80’s. Just a short and scenic run today. Hung out by the pool reading for a few hours. We had dinner in our favorite spots with tables right on the beach. Can’t beat the views.

Monday- walking tour of old gold mine + Peloton core + upper body strength

Not my typical Monday. Today, we took a walking tour of an old abandoned gold mine. It was really interesting to see a different part of the island as well as some flora and fauna. Most people think of Aruba as all beaches when in fact, it is mostly a desert. There are many different microclimates as well.

Tuesday- Sunrise hike to Sero Colorado + Peloton core + boxing + lower body strength

Totally worth getting up for! The morning sunrise over the rocks was just fabulous. I took a private tour with Cado from Salty Hikes and it was just what I was looking for. What a stunning start to the day. Not sure why I decided to do a lower-body strength class after climbing however, I am trying to keep up my workout schedule. (See my Peloton Boxing Review here)

Wednesday- 5.5 mile beach run + Peloton core + stretch

I was told by a local that only “idiot” runs in Aruba after the sun is up. Well, I do resemble that insult! Ha. “Seas the Day” or say they say. It was definitely a toasty one out there but I got in my beach miles. I ran past the only working windmills in Aruba. Snapped this gorgeous picture by the beach about 10 minutes before getting caught in a rainstorm. That’s how it goes here. The rain felt good.

Thursday- upper body strength + lower body strength + core

I am trying to keep up my strength schedule while traveling. Thankfully the Peloton workout app comes with me!

Friday-3.5 mile run + core + yoga

I got a much later start to my run than expected and it was crazy hot. Just a shorter run and some afternoon yoga with a view.

Saturday- planned rest day + core/stretch

We are moving to the other side of the island today and our kids will be joining us next week. Looking forward to running on some different beaches.

Sunday- Run day planned

It has been a relaxing and sunny week here on the one happy island of Aruba. Thanks for stopping in! Have a great week ahead and Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you all.

A great way to spend your holidays in a wonderful place.
To stay active during a vacation is a good idea.

It is challenging to run in these temps and humidity without acclimation. Just taking it slow and easy

  12. Liz Dexter says

    12/19/2021 at 1:15 pm

Lovely to see the sun! We’ve decided Mr Liz will have to take a trip to Spain solo as soon as he can as he has SAD and needs proper sun in the winter, but there’s a risk of getting stuck!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      12/19/2021 at 3:48 pm

I hope you find a way to get some sun for yourself too!
