Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. It has been tough going around here the past 2 weeks. We have not gotten a break from the hazy, hot, and humid weather.(update: the heat finally broke this weekend) I am doing my best to push on out there but admittedly, it was another rough week for running. Here is a peak into my week of fitness and running.
Hazy, Hot, and Humid
Monday- barre + core + back/biceps & leg strength
I am always super motivated on Monday mornings to get in a solid workout. This week I started another Peloton 3 day a week strength program with Callie. They are designed to make sure you get a well-rounded strength workout by hitting all the muscles.I was actually still a bit sore from my class a few days before!
Tuesday- 5 ish mile run + barre + core + stretch
Ok, not going to lie, this was another tough run for me. I even got up early (for me!) and was out at 7 but it was still a struggle. I’m not anywhere near my paces. Hazy, hot, and humid sums it up! Learning to cut myself some slack is not something I am good at but I am sure trying. Tomorrow is another day!
Wednesday-barre + core + foam rolling class
Well, Peloton had an outage this morning right when I set out to do my workout. I was literally paralyzed! LOL. I used to teach group ex classes and I could have easily created my own workout. But, did I do that? Nope. I sat there refreshing my app and trying different devices. Ha!
I had a hair appointment so had little time to work out today. I know, first-world problems. Later, after my hair appointment, all was well with Peloton. It was too late for me to cycle or lift, so core, barre, and stretching it was. I am sure my body will appreciate an extra rest day.
Thursday-4 mile run + 1 mile walk + barre + stretch
We had another night of wicked storms which I hoped would cool things down, At 7 am the humidity was still 92% at 74 degrees. However, it was cloudy which seemed to help a bit. I felt slightly less sucky on today’s run and decided to call it at 4 miles instead of trying to eke out another 2. I finished feeling less frustrated so we will call that a win.
Friday- barre + core + legs/glutes strength + Peloton cycle
Saturday- Rest day from strength + running. neighborhood walk + barre
Our hazy, hot and humid weather finally broke yesterday! I went out for a neighborhood walk to enjoy the cooler temps. Why is it that everyone seems to be running when it’s your rest day!?
Sunday- On the plan 8 miles
I am already fantasizing about running in the cooler temps today. With 7 weeks to go until the Portland Half, I am right on track with 8 miles today. Fingers crossed that it goes better today without the hazy, hot and humid weather.

We still had the heat & humidity, but it didn’t seem as oppressive this week. Maybe because we had some overcast days, or much cooler temps in the early hours (at least when I was outdoors, LOL). I’m glad you’re finally getting a short reprieve from the heat! Enjoy that 8-miler!

Tuesday was killer and we have gotten better since then. Fingers crossed the worst of it is over

The heat broke here and I enjoyed a nice run Friday morning. BUT it made for uncomfortable waterskiing conditions, lol. First world problems, indeed. I went and once I was out of the water, it was fine. I guess we can’t have it both ways!
LOL on the Peloton outage. Glad you were able to sort that out, lol. See you soon!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I guess the water is starting to get cold again!
Darlene says
Yesterday was a perfect running day. Yup. My rest day.
Still you add a productive week.
Today I have a 5k. And I want the heat back to be at the lake. I do t want summer to end yet.
Deborah Brooks says
Hope you have fun at the 5K today!
Melissa says
It cooled down near us and on our mini trip was actually pleasant. Makes such a difference for running! You still an amazing job this week staying active.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, it sure does make a huge difference for running

We’ve had 85 plus temps all week this week, supposed to come down tomorrow but in the evening. I’ve done two four-mile runs this week early then it’s just been too hot or I’ve been to bed too late due to family dramas to be reliably alert for a morning session. I’m gutted but it’s supposed to be cool and rainy next week … You’re looking so strong and I love all your trainers!
Deborah Brooks says
I know you all have also been having a heat wave over there. It has been really tough the last few weeks. Hang in there better weather is coming
Liz Dexter says
It went away for a bit then came back with a vengeance. Feels thundery today so I hope it does (although perhaps not when I’m walking up to visit my friend later!).
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha hope you got your rain free walk in
Coco says
Well, you’ve great great weather for your 8 miler today! Enjoy.
I would have done the same thing with the Peloton outage — kept trying! I guess I am too dependent on it, but it’s usually a healthy addiction.
Deborah Brooks says
I was like a whole new person today best run in weeks!
Marcia says
Glad the heat finally broke for you. We had a pretty good week weather wise with some lovely, cooler nights. You’ll be great for your half!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes finally we caught a break and I could not have been happier out there today

It was such a gift! I had the best run I’ve had in a while and I am very happy

The 3 Hs are always hard — so sorry it didn’t break earlier for you! You just gotta know the paces WILL be slower when those are the conditions.
LOL about not just doing your own thing & refreshing — definitely first world problems! I don’t think I knew you used to do group exercise classes. But it IS frustrating when this sort of thing happens; I hear you!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, I taught cycling and strength classes for a few years pre blog 🙂 I do rely on my Peloton app all the time now. It was a tough week of running but today was a gift!
Kim G says
I was so happy that the heat and humidity broke a few days ago – it was really becoming annoying and unbearable!
Hope your 8 miler went went today – the weather was gorgeous!!
Deborah Brooks says
It really has been oppressive the last few weeks. Today was fantastic! Best run I have had in ages
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I hope you had great weather for the long run today. The change felt so great around here. I had to chuckle about Peloton being out. But I get it, if you had something planned that does throw you for a loop!
Deborah Brooks says
It was fantastic today I was a whole new person!
Michelle says
A break in the weather makes such a difference! Glad to see you finally got some cooler temps.
Deborah Brooks says
yes finally! I was so happy today

The Portland half will be a blast and the weather there will feel so incredible. Stick with it Deb!
Deborah Brooks says
I know I struggle like this every summer and then it magically gets better. So much so that I seem to forget about it and do it again LOL
Jenny says
I hope you had better weather for your 8 miler today! We all know that summer is your fourth favorite running season, so it’s amazing that you’re getting out there and doing those hot runs. You will be rewarded when the weather cools down- it’ll feel so easy!
Deborah Brooks says
It went so much better today! I was one happy runner!
