Joining in for another Weekly Wrap with Wendy and Hoho. Love these weekly workout recaps as a way to stay accountable, keep a fantastic exercise log and connect with like minded fitness friends. After weeks of doubt, and with a little fear that I may jinx it, I think it’s fair to say that spring finally arrived.
Weekly Wrap It’s finally spring
Monday-easy 20 min indoor bike + upper body strength training
I felt surprisingly good after Sunday’s Cherry Blossom 10 miler. Did some easy indoor biking and upper body strength training.
Tuesday-Rest Day
Today was the day I woke up exhausted and maybe a little stiff from Sunday’s race. Sometimes it’s 2 days later that it hits me. I took an unplanned day off and then tried out a session of Cryotherapy. In case you missed it, see my review here.
Wednesday- 90 min kickboxing and strength training
Glad I took the day off Tuesday as I woke up feeling ready to “hit it hard” with my boxing and weights today. Added in tons of ab work which I love. We call these “scoops” and if I do them correctly, I really feel them.
Thursday- Run 4 miles
Selfie game on point today! Enjoying the spring temps and sunshine.
Friday- bike 18 miles + swim 1 hour class
What do you do when you realize that your sprint tri is in less than 4 weeks? Freak out! It was finally the perfect spring day and time to dust off the bike and get out there. I kind of forget how all the gears work at first. Turns out, it’s just like “riding a bike” ha ha. I have also been slacking on my swim and decided to add that back in too. I was completely exhausted! All or nothing right?
Saturday- rest day
Does power shopping count as a workout? Had a fun day at the mall with my mom and niece.
Sunday- on the plan 30 minute bike + 30 minute run
Getting right back into the tri training! While I have been running a lot, I have not been biking or swimming much.
Tell me-what do you do when you realize that you have a race coming up that you have not started training for?
Coming up this week on the blog:
Meatless Monday- Smashed Pea and White Bean Toast
Wednesday- 4 weeks to a triathlon
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I really hope spring is here for good! Usually its those shorter races that sneak up on me, so I try to add in a few workouts to get ready but at least i know I can cover the distance. Great job this week!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it definitely did sneak up on me!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I’m jealous of your spring weather – the weather’s still all over the place here with sleet today! Looks like you had a great week!
Deborah Brooks says
We may have spoken too soon on the spring temps!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Um, I always train? Seriously, this BOTPer takes training really seriously. Maybe some day I won’t, but then again, my body doesn’t like it if I don’t.
Shopping can absolutely be a workout. I can get in a lot of steps shopping!
Our spring, sadly, has not arrived. It was promised to be 70 on Friday — the high was about 55. Which felt really warm. Which is kind of sad in April. Of course today it’s in the 30s.
They say next weekend is supposed to be nice but I don’t trust them!
Deborah Brooks says
I feel like I am always training as well. The first few weeks of tri training are always tough! Hope spring makes it over to you this week
Kim G says
Great week of workouts! Love that you tried cryotherapy too 🙂
Well…it was Spring here yesterday, but today we’re back to 40 degrees with wind and rain, so it was short lived, lol
Deborah Brooks says
Yup same here! I am over it and I refuse to wear winter clothes anymore
Sara says
hahaha….what do you do when you have a race that you haven’t trained for? Wing it and hope for the best! That’s what I’ll be doing this coming weekend.
Great job with your training this week – I don’t think that you need to worry about your upcoming races. You are so fit, it should be an easy transition!
Deborah Brooks says
I do appreciate the confidence boost! My problem is the run to bike. I am always so worn out after a ride it’s hard to get going
[email protected] says
Looks like a great week! I would definitely not underestimate a shopping workout. I have shopped with my mom in some big malls and logged a ton of steps and left exhausted. I guess the massive pretzel I ate might have cancelled it out, but whatever.
Can’t wait for your recipe tomorrow! You always have a great meatless Monday contribution.
Deborah Brooks says
Ooh now you have me wishing I had eaten a big pretzel! What is better than white bread and salt lol
Teresa says
The cherry blossoms are really showing out for you guys! It definitely looks like Spring has finally arrived in your neck of the woods.
I had to chuckle over your comment about the bike gears! Every year, on my first ride, it takes me at least 10 – 15 minutes to get the hang of the gears again! If only indoor bikes had gears …then we’d never lose the touch! Lol
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it took me a few miles to remember how to switch around the gears and then I felt amazing
Coco says
I fight off the panic and urge to squeeze in ALL the training. You can only do what you can do.
Deborah Brooks says
I know! And it’s getting harder for some reason. I refuse to believe it’s my age 🙂
Wendy says
Um, you mean like my 10 mile race I have on Saturday? I was fairly confident that I’d be fine with my base and an 8 miler this weekend, I’d be ok. But that 8 miler didn’t happen–I felt really sick during my run today. So I”ll just wing it… if it were a tri, that would be a different story!
Deborah Brooks says
You always seem to be able to pull off your runs. Maybe less running is better bc you are more rested? Who knows!
meranda steel says
I thought Spring was here but now it’s raining, which I guess rain is par for the course for Spring but I’d like it to be warmer!
When I realize I have not trained enough for a race I just consider it a fun run! You’ll do fine! -M
Deborah Brooks says
A fun run indeed! thanks
Jessie says
Great week! Was your swim a class? i.e. do you have a swim coach? I’ve just started with swim lessons with a private coach and am loving them! (I’m a reluctant swimmer, due to the broken leg).
I am glad you liked Cryotherapy and loved reading about your experience!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes my gym offers a 1 hour master swim class. We have a coach that leads us through drills and sets and gives us feedback. We cover about 1600-2000 m a class. I would think a one on one coach would give you much more feedback. Stick with it!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I’ve never actually trained for a race… but I’ve also never done more than a Half. I think I may try for another half and now that I’m old that will take a bit of training, no doubt!
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha if you are old, I am ancient!!
Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says
I love the running skirt you wore this week! The colors are so much fun for spring and summer!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I love it now if we can just get the spring temps to stick around! 🙂
Marcia says
Send some of that spring this way will ya? It’s been rain/sleet/snowing here for 2 days straight and counting. When a race sneaks up on me I vow to “fun” run it. Now sure exactly how to “fun” swim. haha!
Deborah Brooks says
The swim is really short so not too worried about that. It’s the bricks that do me in. It was warm and sunny for a few days but today not so much. Hope it warms up by you too
Kimberly Hatting says
I sooo armoire your tri skills & training. I abhor the water, but really need to get over that (since I do want to do a tri soneday). I’m not especially fond of cycling either… so when the day comes (and I actually commit to a tri), I will have a lot of work ahead of me. Best of luck!!
Deborah Brooks says
I prefer the pool swims bc I get kind of anxious in open water. It’s the shortest part of the race. I know you could totally crush one
AmyC says
Definitely panic and then get to work like you did!
I’m curious about your 1 hour swim class – it’s an actual class led by instructor/coach type thing? I’m a beginner to swimming workouts and just looking at ideas for future workouts.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I take a master swim class at our gym each week. It’s a group class led by a coach who leads us through different drills and gives us feedback. Check USA Master swim website for locations by you
AmyC says
Sounds awesome! Thank you 😉
Shathiso says
Well done on getting back to swimming and cycling! And I always think being a stronger runner gives you an advantage in triathlons so you have got this! PS: Shopping IS a real workout, most definitely! LOL
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha I was exhausted after a few hours w my niece at the mall!
Christine says
I’m not sure I’ve ever forgotten that I had a race coming up and didn’t train for it! I’ve not trained for races knowing they were coming up and run them anyway, though. That always gets mixed results.
Power shopping might count as a workout. My Fitbit logged some time at my Thursday happy hour last 15 minutes of “sport.” Ha! I guess was standing and moving around enough for 15 straight minutes.
Deborah Brooks says
happy hour can be quite an active endeavor! 🙂
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
You had a great week! The cryotherapy sounds really interesting…I’m seriously thinking of giving it a try! Nice job with your ride too – the last 2 races I ran seemed to really sneak up on me, good thing they weren’t goal races!
Deborah Brooks says
Races have a way of doing that huh?
Lesley says
I’ll count power shopping if you count airport walking 🙂 My flight was changed from concourse C to E in Houston, and that meant a lot of walking, even with using the tram between them.
Deborah Brooks says
It can be deceiving how much walking there is in the airport!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Sounds like you had a good week of training! I couldn’t imagine adding both swimming and biking to my routine. Of course, I need to start biking again soon if I have any hopes of riding in the Reston Century later this summer.
Deborah Brooks says
I do like to do the Reston Century as well. I know I cannot keep up on a run but I could probably hang w you on a bike ride 🙂
Darlene says
Well it may be spring where you live. Not here. Still seeing snow in the forecasts and 30 degrees in the am.
I am so over winter.
Deborah Brooks says
It was spring yesterday and now not so much!
Clarinda says
Good luck with your tri training. You’ll do just fine. I saw you have a good plan in place. If I’ve forgotten to train for a race, I usually just let go of any goals and do the race for fun. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
That tends to happen to me all the time!! 🙂
