Happy Wednesday! Now that I am all moved into my new house, I am working on organizing my home gym. Over the years, I’ve accumulated a few pieces of equipment that I now consider my Home Gym Must Haves. These 5 pieces allow me to get the most bang for my buck and do a wide variety of exercises to target every body part.
Home Gym Must Haves
Stability Ball
I consider a stability ball a basic for any home gym. Great for stretching, balance exercises and core work. Here are some of my favorite moves to do on the ball.
Free weights
With just a few different sized weights, you are set for your strength training day.
Resistance Bands
I use my resistance bands to work my inner and outer thighs as well as glutes. The possibilities are endless really. I often throw them into my bag when I travel as well. They last for years.
Medicine Balls
Perfect for squats throws and woodchops as well as core work, my medicine ball is one of the most used pieces in my gym. No need to go super heavy as I find the 6 and 8 pound ball to be perfect.
More of a splurge item, with weighted body bars you can really get a great upper or lower body strength workout. I particularly like these because they are cushioned and easy to grip. One of my favorite moves is to do jumping jacks with the bar raised above my head.
I do most of my strength training at home and these are my go to pieces of equipment. Tell me-What are your Home Gym Must Haves? What should I add to my list?

I am considering setting up a home gym at some point…another project to add to the list! I like medicine balls and doing the Nike Training App workouts with it. Resistance bands are great, I’m always surprised by how much you can do with them!
Yes I agree you can really do a lot with resistance bands and they are so portable too
I have a Trigger Point foam roller that is a must for me! And I just bought a TRX thingy that I haven’t started using but need to if I want to get my upper body stronger!
As you know I also have a whole pile of my foam roller and foot torture devices over here. I have a TRX too but don’t seem to use it too often. I think Becky probably has your upper body in tip top shape!
These are some great essentials. I totally agree!
Thanks gotta have good gear at home to motivate!
I have all those in my home gym too! I could use a few more med balls though!
They are really versatile aren’t they?!
Looks like great pieces to me. I thought for sure the BOSU ball would be on your list.
I do use my BOSU all the time too but wasn’t sure about adding it my list
I have heard of body bars, but do not know much about them. I’ll have to do some more looking into them. I am totally with you on the free weights and stability balls. That’s what I use!
I really like the body bars for deadlifts and over head stuff. Check it out
I am dreaming of the day I can set up a home gym in a place of my own!
It’s definitely a great luxury to have
I’d like to get one of the body bars. I used them at a gym I used to go to and like them a lot. I have a couple kettlebells. They’re useful for my workouts.
The body bars are great and very versatile. I don’t have any kettle bells yet.
Yey for a new house and a new home gym!! I have a stability ball, resistance bands and 2 pairs of free weights. That’s about all I can have in an apartment, but one day I’m going to have the most epic of epic home gyms haha. Hope you’re enjoying the new house!
I am thanks so much!
I have a yoga mat and a pole (I need to find the other pieces to it so I can put it up ._.), haha. I want to get a stability ball as my desk chair so it can double as part of my at-home gym! 😛
Well a pole would be fun over here! 🙂
These are great, I need to get some med balls for home! I would add to this a pull up bar. I love using it (and ours is super easy and fits over the door). Great for negatives and for using as an anchor for my resistance bands.
Great idea! I need to add that to my list
Yoga Mat! And foam roller! Gliders are also great!
Yes foam rollers of all different types are here that’s another post LOL. Ooh gliders are great
I need to get a new stability ball!!! I have all these minus the kettle bells at home, and need to start using them, LOL!!
The stability balls are great and so versatile
That medicine ball with the handle is great…almost like a kettle bell/medicine ball hybrid! Thanks for linking up!
Yes exactly!
The very next piece I am added to my home collection, because it is a far cry from even being called a gym….Is the stability Ball. I have no idea where I’ll keep it but I’m getting one!
If people don’t have one a foam roller would be a great addition as well.
You can throw it in any closet it’s great to have
These are def some of the pieces of workout equipment I use for myself too!! There all so versatile and plenty of workout can be dont with them, esp the Bosu (stability ball). Maybe look into purchasing a foam roller tore, for those days when you need to recover and treat sore muscles! 🙂
oh yes love my foam roller and all of my torture devices
Love that you have a home gym! I just have some free weights, a yoga mat, foam roller & ab wheel in my apartment!
The ab wheel is great too!
Congrats on moving in to your new home! I always said if I ever get around to setting up a home gym that I would get TRX. I use it at the gym now – always provides a good workout.
You know I have a trx in a box somewhere I have to find it! And thanks
All my favs, except the body bars I’ll have to check those out! Sounds like all the new house stuff is going well!
Overwhelming but good!
If you have the right sized doorway maybe a pull up bar. I’m enjoying experimenting with the Pilates ring every week.
Oh yeah I could get a pull up bar too-why not?!
Congrats on the new house! Oh I love weighted body bars, I dont own one but the have them at my gym. Super versitle, would love to have one!
They are great to have around and I can do lots with them.
Yes to all of the above… except… I don’t have a body bar! I need one in my life!
They are really versatile. I love them for dead lifts.
I have everything but the body bar(s). I’m quite the amateur with the medicine ball, though. I LOVE my free weights….those get used a lot 😉
The body bars are great and you can really do a lot with them.
Great list! I still need to get myself a medicine ball for at-home workouts.
Thanks they are a great basic for sure
I think my must haves are dumbbells – and a yoga mat! (Even if you’re not doing yoga, I use them for floorwork!)
Yes so do I great to have a nice cushioned one
I’m adding to my home gym after baby #2 arrives. It’ll be the only way I can workout! Love the pieces you recommended.
Oh yes it will! Good luck
Your posts just reminded me how much I loved working with resistance bands – need to incorporate them again into my routine!
I do like to use them a lot they are very versatile
Love these 5 items! I think I need some weighted body bars in my life! I just bought a pull-up bar for home too- I can only do like 2 pull-ups at a time but I am working on it!
Hey that’s probably 2 more than I can do!
Nice list for a solid home gym to get a good workout. I love a nice kettlebell too.
What a great list. I have some of them but need to incorporate them into my workouts more.
Having them at home makes it a lot easier for me
This reminds me I need to get a new stability ball!
They are great to have!
I really want a Bosu ball and some kettle bells for a home gym, but I make due with running outside and going to Orange Theory.
They are about to open an OTF right down the street so I am going to try to fit it in
