Well, I could not let the month and the year of 2024 come to an end without just a few more Runfessions and Confessions. I know everyone is busy enjoying their family and friends this week so I’m keeping it short. Thanks for Marcia for hosting. Here we go…
I Runfess and Confess…
I entered the lottery for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler knowing that I was not sure that I wanted to run it. Naturally, I did get in and I still don’t know if I feel like training for it this year. I’ve been enjoying running less miles this year and putting more attention into strength and mobility. Funny things have happened: My body doesn’t have all the “normal” aches and pains and stiffness it did for decades. I’m also less stressed about running specific miles and paces and making sure I get all of my runs in.
I’m still not sure what I am planning to do and I still have some time to figure it out. I know I will have major FOMO or maybe I won’t? Don’t worry, I will of course keep you posted on what I decide to do.
I Runfess and Confess…
About this time last year, I realized that I could connect my Garmin to my United Health care app and get “points” for exercise. I had kind of forgotten about it until a few weeks ago when I realized that I had earned the maximum amount of $300 this year. I further Runfess and Confess that I did not realize that the calendar year for our plan apparently renewed last week and not in January therefore, I lost the $300 before it started over. Alas, I have started again! I will remember to cash that in early in 2025.
Furthermore, for all the faults that many health care companies have, there are some perks and benefits like this to take advantage of if you look for them. I know that I can get a credit on my Peloton membership that I need to set up for the coming year.
Anyway, that’s all I’ve got at the end of this year for Runfessions and Confessions! See you next week for the first Ultimate Coffee Date of 2025. Merry Christmas and Happy Hanukkah!

I am right there with you regarding running and strength training in 2025! It feels so freeing to just run. The aches and pains, however, have not disappeared lol
Deborah Brooks says
I sure hope your aches and pains subside as well!
Catrina says
That’s so cool that your health insurance has those incentives! Shame that you missed the slot, but I’m sure you will remember next year.
I’m excited to see what you decide on the Cherry Blossom – of course, I’m secretly hoping you will run it! 😅
Deborah Brooks says
I very mixed feelings at the moment!
Marcia says
I agree with you. The aches and pains that came along with marathon training are gone since I’ve cut my mileage way back. I think it was all due to inflammation. I also agree that it is SO freeing to not chase pace and mileage goals. I runfess I probably love my strength training a little bit more than running right now. Wait, did I say that?? Haha!!
Deborah Brooks says
yeah, I am right there with you at the moment. I think it’s okay and probably good for us.
Renée says
I would feel th same Deborah about the race – whatever you decide it will be the right decision I’m sure. I’m totally losing my Paris entry (that I paid for) because I can already get surgery on one of my feet. Could I wait? Sure! do I want to? No!
I’m off to check if my insurance has any benefits… I know a friend of mine gets credits for participating AND volunteering for parkrun!!
Deborah Brooks says
I can totally get why you want to get your foot surgery as soon as possible and be on your way to health!
Debbie says
I’ve never bothered to connect my Fitbit or Garmin to my United Heathcare app. Thanks for the reminder that it’s worth the effort, I shall get on it soon!
Deborah Brooks says
This was the first year that I did it and I like that I get credit for walks or runs
Kimberly Hatting says
I’m under a new healthcare plan, now with United! I need to get that synced (my coverage starts next week). I’m not running as many miles, in recent months, as in years past. Ironically, my aches & pains are much less and my speed has improved. Crazy how that works, LOL! I hope your holiday season has been wonderful:-)
Deborah Brooks says
I do think the decades of running a lot takes a toll on our aging bodies
Jenn says
So exciting! Cherry Blossom is still very much a bucket list race for me and I need to put in for that lottery!
Happy New Year!
Deborah Brooks says
It is a great race and I loved doing it for a number of years. Just not sure I want to train for it
Darlene S Cardillo says
My healthcare pays me $400 toward a gym membership and my work has as app (virgin pulse) that connect s to my Apple watch and pays me $400 a year.
I’m thinking of re-joining the gym.
Run Rock N Roll DC!!!!
At some point I do want to run Cherry Blossom. But maybe they will be early I’ll see them in March.
Deborah Brooks says
Well, I do think you should take advantage of those perks! Often the blossoms are out mid March so perhaps
Coco says
Oh, man! Easy come, easy go on that $300. Hopefully they’ll have the same perk next year.
I didn’t even enter the CUCB lottery. I’m just looking at LHH in May.
Enjoy the rest of your vacation!
