January 2024 Ultimate Coffee Date
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
Ever wonder if all of that upper body strength training will translate into everyday life? On our way back from Aruba, I was shown just how important strength training is. As my 60 pound bag (yes 60 pounds) came off the carousel, I thought nothing of reaching in for it and pulling that giant bag off in my best “upright row” form. My husband just looked at me like, “ok then, you don’t need my help”. Yes, ladies, keep picking up those heavy weights.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
You may remembering me mentioning on a previous coffee date that I had a less than stellar experience at my PT sessions. I waited almost 3 months to get in to see a different PT this week and I think he will be a help to me. While my initial glute pain has subsided, I would still like to uncover why I continue to get hip and glute injuries. We have identified a few things to work on and I am optimistic that we can figure it out.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
February marks the 11th birthday for our MRTT running group. I never could have imagined how starting this group would change my life the way it has. We now have over 900 members! I plan to write more about how our group started and what a profound impact it has had on my life coming soon.
If we were having coffee what would you tell me?

That’s hilarious that the hubby was impressed (astounded!) with your strength! Yes, lifting those weights reaps numerous benefits for practical living (and travel) 🙂 Congrats on the growth of your MRTT group… that’s amazing!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s super empowering when you realize how strong you are!
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Yes. My suitcase is always too heavy.
Hope the new pt helps. I may have to search one out for my ankle.
Congrats on your MRTT.
Our group has not reached that. And we are only 10ish
Deborah Brooks says
I hope you ankle recovers quickly. Yes, it’s fun to see our group grow so much
Jenny says
Glad to hear the glute pain has subsided! Yes, a little pre-hab wouldn’t be a bad thing though. i hope the new PT is helpful.
It is nice to be able to actually lift something heavy in real life! When someone offers to help me I love to say, “Oh, no thanks- I’ve been working out.” Heh heh!
I would love to hear more details about your MRTT group!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, feeling strong is everything!

Answers are so valuable!
900 members. Wow that’s amazing!
Deborah Brooks says
I am pretty happy about it!

It’s always great to get to the root of things! Good luck.
I’m relatively strong, but I think 60 lb is a lot. Would I need help? Well my husband and I were able to move treadmills around. Those things are HEAVY!
Deborah Brooks says
they sure are heavy! Realizing you are stronger than you think you are is everything
Erica @ Erica Finds says
I have that experience in my building all of the time when we get heavy packages. I always tell them “I work out!” But I have to ask – why was your bag so heavy if you were in a warm weather place?!
Hope the PT helps. I have a great chiropractor who helped me with hip/hammy/glute so if this doesn’t help, I’d suggest trying a chiro!
Deborah Brooks says
I have no idea why my bag was so heavy! I’ve thought about the chiro idea and will check that out thanks
Farrah says
I’m always so glad to be not-weak when I’m traveling (especially internationally, with them unwieldy backpacks/luggage items!). 😛
That’s so awesome that there’s over 900 members!! :] Congrats on that growth over the past decade!!
Deborah Brooks says
Feeling strong does feel good 🙂
Michelle says
I hope you have much better luck with the new PT – I know how frustrating the on-and-off hip/glute pain can be.
Nice to have that strength training pay off 😉
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I know you do know how annoying it can be
Zenaida Arroyo says
Oh my, still with the hip and glute injuries? I can imagine that is frustrating. I hope this PT works out for you.
Deborah Brooks says
They come and go and I’ve love to find out why once and for all
Jenn says
Ha ha! I pride myself on being able to carry and lift things! I don’t always feel strong up top, but I can lug my own suitcase, thank you very much!
Deborah Brooks says
exactly! You bet we can
Renée says
Haha nice literal flex picking up your bag!
Glad you have a new PT now, sometimes it’s really tricky to find the right one! My favourite PT recently discovered he had an AI disease after being unwell for a while and hasn’t been able to work. It’s very sad. There’s only one other that I feel like really knows and can help me but he’s kind of far away now.
Hooray for the MRTT group upcoming anniversary! I think my feeling about setting up parkrun here is very similar. Though we are only just over 2 years old.
Deborah Brooks says
It’s a fabulous feeling to help get like minded people together!
