Living in the DC area, we are certainly situated nicely to visit so many other cities on the eastern seaboard. Last weekend, the hubs and I took a quick weekend trip to NYC. It had been a while since I had visited and I forgot how much there was to love during our weekend in NYC.
5 Things to love about a Weekend in NYC
Walking
One of the best thing about visiting NYC is that you can walk almost everywhere and anywhere. I logged about 5 miles of walking each day. Living in the suburbs, there are not too many places I can walk to from my home.
Easy train access
From the DC area, it ‘s just a short 3 hour train ride. Super easy and you don’t have to worry about traffic or weather delays. The perfect spot for a weekend getaway.
The Food
Oh boy did I enjoy the food! I was in carb heaven with amazing Italian food from ravioli to pizza to hot pretzels. Never hurts to be carbed up and ready just in case right?
Running in Central Park
Fall is the perfect time for walking or running in Central Park. The trees were in their peak fall bloom and the weather was fantastic. I was surprised by how many people were out and about running, biking and strollering around.
Window Shopping and people watching
Fall is the perfect time for window shopping (and real shopping) in NYC. All of the windows and stores are just putting out all the holiday decor and it feels so festive to walk around and soak it all in. There is always something going on from festivals to parades to protests. Lots to see everyday!
What’s your favorite thing to do during a weekend in NYC? Do you like to eat all the foods?

The train is my favorite way to get to NYC! Most of the time when I go to NY I head to Long Island where my family and friends are so we drive. NYC is great for walking around and eating lots of good food.
Indeed it is!
I’ve been to NYC twice and have yet to run there! I hear Central Park is hilly. Looks like you had a great weekend!
It was so hilly I was surprised. We did have a fun trip
NYC is definitely foodie heaven, and I never thought about how close it is to you guys! It’s basically just as long a train ride for us.
One of the things I love about NYC is that there is always something new to do, even though I’ve been going since I was a little girl.
Yes I totally agree. There are still so many things I have not seen or done
I love running in Central Park and window shopping along Fifth Avenues and Rockefeller Center! Luckily you had good walking weather.
We had gorgeous weather for walking
The people watching in NYC is something else! Whenever I go up to the city, I like to try new restaurants which is never hard to do
All the food is so amazing
You are right, I LOVE living on the East Coast with access to all the cool cities!
I’m actually going into the city next month to see the Christmas decorations. I wanted to run in Central Park but unfortunately with this weather that just moved through, I may pass up on that.
I actually enjoy going to Eataly in the Financial district for food. Have you ever tried that? (There may be another on in the city somewhere too but that’s the only one I know of).
Thanks for linking up with us! Have a great weekend. -M
I did go to Eataly a few years ago super yum
I go to Boston a lot but never NYC! I need to plan a trip
Definitely it’s so close to you
I love NYC weekends! Central Park is so beautiful and I’m definitely a fan of all the foods 🙂 I love that they have so many vegan and veggie options.
I had no trouble finding lots of food to eat
NYC is great and for me, a weekend is the perfect amount of time. More than that and I am ready to go back to my quiet life. I live in Harrisburg, so it is also a three hour train ride. We take Amtrak, is that what you take?
The last time Paul and I went to NYC was this past summer. He went to see Radiohead and I so Beautiful. It was so good. We did something new on that trip, which was visit The Highline. It is a raised park the follows an old train track. It was scorching hot while we were there which makes me think you would enjoy it more in the fall or spring. Check it out!

Yes a 3 hour train for us as well. I also feel that a weekend is just long enough for me as well. Fall and spring are great
When we lived in Boston, my family would go to NYC a couple times a year, and people watching in Greenwich Village was quite entertaining. I did take the train down one weekend, and it was so easy!
People watching is great there!
ooooh, I’d love a weekend in NYC! I have only been there once, when our oldest child was a few months old…so I’m dying to go back. Blogger reunion? 😉
I think you know how I feel about NYc.
I love the people watching, the parks the buildings the museums the food. I could go on and on
Those pretzels look so good!
Hot pretzels are always good!
Yes yes yes on the people watching. It’s funny how lucky we are to live in such great cities. I could have written almost this for DC, except the food. Not that it wasn’t good — I just couldn’t afford to enjoy it. Glad you enjoyed my city.
Yes the food has gotten pricey in DC now as well. I just ate my way through another city!
