Popping in today to share a few Friday Travel Tips. Through lots of trial and error, I’ve perfected my travel outfits for maximum comfort and practicality. There are 5 things I never wear to the airport.
5 Things I never wear to the Airport
White pants
While they are a staple of my summer wardrobe, and very fashionable, white denim is a terrible airport idea. They get way too dirty in the airport and on the plane. They will be packed in my bag to wear at my destination of course.
Sandals
Yes, I do love my summer sandals, especially my white Birkenstocks. I never wear them to the airport! Open-toed shoes are a terrible idea. People are in a hurry and it’s easy to get your toes stepped on or bumped with rolling luggage. I need to be able to walk fast and comfortably. On a long flight, I like to slip off my shoes and relax with my feet in socks. My pick: slip-on sneakers like these.
Shorts
Even when it’s hot outside, I save the shorts for my destination. The temperature on planes can vary greatly. I am more comfortable in joggers like these or even a maxi dress.
Long sleeves
For the same reason as the shorts above, you never know what the temperature will be on a flight. I opt for a short sleeve shirt or tank and pair it with a zip-up hoodie. I can also use the hoodie rolled up like a pillow to sleep.
Lots of makeup
The air on planes can be so dehydrating. I skip the makeup on long flights and load up on extra moisturizer. That way, if I doze off, I don’t have to worry about sleeping with makeup on. No one wants to do that!
Tell me some of the things you never do when you travel or never wear to the airport. Where are you headed next?

These are things I had not thought of. I know how cold it always feels on the planes, though. I always have a long-sleeved top layer, year round. In cooler months, I usually have a “blanket” scarf/wrap of some sort to keep me warm.
Deborah Brooks says
that works too!
Jenny says
Yep, I agree! You never know what the temperature will be and I usually get cold on planes. i just want to be comfortable so I usually wear some sort of joggers, a t-shirt and sneakers, with a sweatshirt in case I need it.
Deborah Brooks says
that’s a good plan!
Warren Footz says
um, except for the make up, yeah…….I always have very little in carry-on luggage, maybe a book and my IPhone…nothing that’ll set a scanner off…and almost nothing I need to put in that tray through security..the quicker I go through the better
Deborah Brooks says
Definitely helps to breeze through security!
San says
Yes! Close-toed shoes, layers and minimal Makeup (e.g. tinted moisturizer and maybe a little powder!)
Deborah Brooks says
it works well!
Debbie says
I agree, it’s all about comfort and layers works well for that. I’m old enough to remember dressing up to fly – dress, pantyhose, and heels. Ugh!
Deborah Brooks says
I do remember when people used to dress to fly and to everything else!!
Zenaida Arroyo says
Great tips! I also want to be comfortable and wear jeans, gym shoes, a shirt, and a sweater/hoodie, jacket. I like to have a book too.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it sure helps to be comfy!
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Always wear black leggings. Carry sandals in my bag to change into. Layers. A tank top but a sweater for when it’s cold on the plane.
Enjoy your Italian excursion.

I believe in long pants and layers. I will wear flip flops because I live in Florida and it’s just what we do.
Deborah Brooks says
I like socks on the plane so I can take my shoes off
Cari says
I need to find a good pair of slip ons, because I live in sandals. To the degree I just bought toeless compression socks for the flight. It was so weird to fly in my hiking shoes recently. Otherwise I agree
And the hoodie does double duty as a pillow too if it gets warm
Deborah Brooks says
The hoodie is key for a pillow option yes. I bought a pair of slip on On clouds and love them (don’t’ tell my Brooks friends)
