And just like that summer running is here! Admittedly, summer is my 4th favorite season to run in. (Hello humidity). However, I do have my list of summer running essentials that help to make those runs much more enjoyable and safer. Here are my 2023 picks! This post contains affiliate links.

5 Summer Running Essentials 2023

Sunscreen

It is a must for me all year around but so much more important in the summer months. No moisturizer with SPF is not enough and either is wearing a hat or a visor. I’ve got 2 faves that I swear by all year. If you like a little tint (and why not?) Supergoop glow screen does the trick with a subtle tint and spf 40. Lately, I am also into Naked Sundays 50 SPF with plant-based collagen + antioxidants in a mineral sunscreen. It feels light while running.

Sunglasses

My signature accessory for color and flair, sunglasses are an essential in the summertime. I love the fit and style of knockaround sunnies. Reasonably priced so you can grab a few colors. That link should gift you a nice coupon too.

Hydration pack

Keeping up with hydration is a must for me all year around but especially important in the summer heat and humidity. I’ve tried so many hydration systems over the years and Orange Mud is my pick. If you don’t enjoy a handheld or a waist pack. Check out this unique design. You can read my full review here.

running shorts

I’ve got 2 go to Brooks Running shorts I live in all summer. If you like compression bike shorts style, the Moment 5 inch have a super comfy stay in place waistband and a nice soft compression to keep everything in place. Gotta love the 2 big side pockets.

If you prefer a lighter, more minimal coverage flows short, the Chaser comes in a 3”, 5” or longer 7”. I think they are super flattering and cute.

Light tank tops

Looking for a featherweight summer tank? The Brooks Women’s Sprint Free tank is my pick year after year. Semi-fitted and quick drying it runs true to size.

These are my must have summer running essentials for 2023. Let me know if you give any of them a try! Run Happy!

That summer tank is exactly what I’m looking for! I need a few new ones and I can’t seem to find any good ones here in South Africa. I’ll order that one in Switzerland so I have it when I get back.

I agree with all except hydration pack. I carry a bottle or plant one in my route.

Wear a baseball cap and Goodr glasses.

As long as you stay hydrated! So many runners neglect to carry hydration

Whoa- Naked Sundays? I’ve never heard of that company but their products look awesome. And they contain plant-based collagen? I wasn’t even sure there was such a thing but after reading Catrina’s post yesterday I want to look into it.
The Orange Mud hydration pack is pretty much the best thing ever. It doesn’t bounce, doesn’t make your back hot, and you seriously can barely feel it. I love mine so much!

I have become so much more aware of wearing my sunscreen all the time since my mohs surgery. It really is the most important thing I put on before I run.

It’s too hot for a hydration pack lol. I just can’t stand that much touching me on the hot and humid days!

      Do you use a handheld?
