5 Reasons to add Kickboxing into your life

IMG_1411

1. Cardio

When you are used to pounding the pavement or treadmill a few times a week, it can take a toll on the joints. Kickboxing offers and intense, low impact full body workout that’s easy on the joints. You can easily scorch approx 400-800 calories and hour while increasing your metabolism. If you think 5 minutes on a treadmill seems long, try hitting the bags for a few minutes. You’ll be surprised by how winded you become in seconds.

2. Sculpt

Punching the bag with boxing gloves will tone your arms creating long, lean muscles while building endurance. You’re getting a full body workout, as your core must be engaged to execute the moves. You’re toning your waist and sculpting your lats. The many variations of kicks are toning your legs and butt and providing endless opportunities for interval training. Add weighted gloves for extra resistance.

3. Improve Posture

Sitting at a desk all day, can lead to weak core and abs. You must engage and use your core to stabilize as you kick and punch. Strengthening these muscles will help you with any other activity you do and help you hold better posture at rest.

4. Reduce Stress

Kickboxing is a healthy way to get out your frustrations. We all feel like hitting someone or something at one point or another. Punching and kicking a bag leads to an endorphin rush and instant mood elevator. Who doesn’t want that?

5. Do it at home

We are all busy. We don’t have time to go to another place to do another workout. With a couple of pieces of equipment, you can easily do this workout at home. Perhaps, you can get the rest of your family to join in.

All you need to start is a good pair of gloves and Heavy Bag.

I love my pink boxing gloves

a simple heavy bag is enough to get you started
a simple heavy bag is enough to get you started

You can easily pick up any of the equipment on Amazon or at any fitness store (Sports Authority or Dicks)

Most importantly, it just makes me feel completely BAD ASS afterwards and ready to take on the world. There is no better feeling than that!

Do you ever kickbox? Do you love it as much as I do?

Ah Tae Bo that was quite the fad. You have no excuse then-give it a try it’s empowering and quite a workout.

I like the sound of this. I could go for this as an alternate training method.

Confession: I did tae bo back in the day, and did kind of enjoy it. Haha. So only a step away.

Hey new sister! I used to LOVE kickboxing, and went to classes every week. I took karate back in the day, so it was a great deal of fun for me to bring that back out. I would love to do it again if I had the chance! But I definitely love it in the class environment–I instantly start to compete with people and push myself further.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/16/2014 at 12:57 pm

So true! You can easily compete with others and they don’t even realize it! Thanks for stopping by & have great day!

I used to kickbox a long time ago. We do have gloves and a bag hanging from one of the steel beams in the unfinished area of the basement. It IS a major cardio workout. Imagine punching that bag for 3 minutes. That’s no joke. Kicking the bag is fun too! 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/16/2014 at 1:17 pm

Absolutely! I have it in my basement too. Just a few minutes does a lot of good. I love kicking that bag-it won’t kick back! Have a great day!

Love kickboxing. I took classes in college and it was awesome. I tried to take them and S&H near my office but it was always super crowded. New boxing gym opened up in Falls Church near where the trail hits 29. I have been meaning to check it out. Otherwise I might have to come over and borrow your pink gloves 🙂

Love kickboxing! I can’t make it to the class times at my gym though. I know it’s great for the entire body. That’s awesome that you have a punching bag at your house. I don’t know if I’d have the motivation to do it at home, I’d need an instructor telling me to punch harder!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      05/19/2014 at 11:15 am

I really love having a bag in my basement. I do feel I get quite the workout in a short amount of time. I could never get to the classes either. Let me know if you give it a try!
