Race plans for 2023 are shaping up! As many of you know, I much prefer to run and train predominately in the winter months. Here in the Washington, DC area, our temps are pretty manageable. I enjoy and thrive much more in colder temps. Thus, I like to front load my races for late winter and early spring. Here’s a look at my 2023 race calendar so far.
2023 Race Plans and Training
Right now, my races are all in February, March and April with my goal race being the NYC Half on March 19th.
For The Love 10K (tentative) February 5th
This one is a maybe due to a possible travel conflict. It’s a low key, but super hilly 10K that would be great training if I can fit it in. Traditionally, this is always the coldest weekend around here!
Reston 10 miler-March 5th
A great practice race 2 weeks before my half. Coincidentally, it is much of the same course as the race above. Last year, this was a nice confidence builder for me before I ran the Asheville Half. Hopefully, it will have the same effect this season.
New York City Half Marathon-March 19th
My goal race of the season! It took me 4 years to get into this race and I am so excited to run through the streets of New York City. Extra bonus that Cari, Darlene and Zenaida will also be there running.
Cherry Blossom 10 Miler April 2
My favorite home town race! Running amongst the cherry blossoms 🌸 and National Monuments of Washington, DC is always a favorite for me. In fact, it will be my 12th time running this race. Extra bonus that Cari, Kim, Coco and hopefully Michelle will also be running. Many of my local MRTT friends will also be at the start line.
GW Parkway 10 Miler -April 23
Another low key local race that I fell in love with last year. The GW Parkway is a great way to end the spring season before the summer heat rolls in. Starting at Mount Vernon and running down the GW Parkway to Old Town Alexandria, it’s a locals favorite.
I don’t have any races planned over the summer because well, summer. Ha! I also leave our summer open for lots of travel.
Fall 2023
I am not totally sure yet what my race plans are. I’m looking at a few possibilities.
Philadelphia Distance Run-September 17th
I enjoy running and racing in Philly and this one is sponsored by Brooks. Downside: I would have to train in the summer heat.
Richmond Half Marathon-November 11th
I really like that this half is in mid-November which gives me more time to train after the summer heat. In addition, Richmond is not a far drive from me. I can’t believe I’ve never run it. I hear it’s a great race.
Training Plan
I am currently training with Team Wilpers again in the group half marathon training program. So far so good. Stay tuned for updates! Race info subject to change of course!

What a great schedule. All seem like fun races.
Excited to race NYC. You’re giving me FOMO on cherry blossom.
I’ve love to travel more but there’s work and $$.
I will keep your choices in mind for the future.

You’ve got a lot of my staple races from years gone by on your list. Let me know if you register for the For the Love of It 10K. I’m thinking of running it if I’m in town that weekend and would love to meet up.

We are now going to be away for the 10K. I am definitely doing the Reston 10. Hopefully, I will see you sometime this year

Congrats on getting into the NYC Half! That sounds like so much fun, especially with so many friends joining you. One of these days (I always say that), I’ll get to the east coast and join you in a race. 🙂
