Weekly Wrap Crazy Busy
This Tuesday, I am lacing up my sneakers to coach my 8th season of Girls on The Run. Most of you know how passionate I am about coaching as I have written about my experience with the program numerous times. Since I am also the liason for the program, I am responsible for the administrative part as well. This part, I am not so passionate about. We have a record number of 68 girls signed up! I thankfully have the best friends who have stepped in to help volunteer coach. We are going to need all the hands on we can get.
I have been inundated with emails from parents with requests and questions. My patience is wearing a little thin for that but I know once we get going that aspect will die down significantly. Supplies are all ready and we set to start our program on Tuesday.
Short recap of my week of training:
Sunday – 4 mile hill run
We realized that our Ragnar Napa Valley race is quickly approaching and opted to tackle some crazy hills.
Monday- 1 mile treadmill run + 60 min strength training
Tuesday- 6 mile run with MRTT friends
Our little heat wave made my runs a little more challenging again but got it done. √
Wednesday- 1 mile treadmill run + 90 m kickboxing and weights.
I got a new toy to add to my home gym and kickboxing routine. Punching things feels good every once in a while especially when you know they will not punch you back.
Thursday- 4 mile run
Fit in a quick 4 miles before heading over to services at our temple to celebrate Rosh Hashanah. Came home and cooked some veggie dishes to bring over to my parents’ house. Had a really nice dinner with them and my extended family.
Friday- hot yoga 1 hour
Went to my favorite hot yoga class at Core Power. Small group allowed me to get a lot of extra attention on some poses. I always feel amazing when I leave.
Saturday- rest day
Made soup for our soup club which is starting back Sunday. Who knew it would be this hot? I went with a roasted red pepper and corn chowder.
Sunday- 10K race
First 10K in a long time! More details to follow.
Crazy Busy week indeed for me. How was your week? Anyone racing?
Make sure to stop back for tomorrow’s Meatless Monday recipe: Black Bean Taco Zoodles
Wow! You did have a busy week. You deserved that rest day on Saturday. Please share the soup recipe. That sounds tasty.
Oh yes I did forget to add the soup link I will do that!
Girls on the Run sounds like so much fun but also alot of work! I wanted to coach but it doesn’t work out with my work schedule. Hope the 10k went well!
I hope you have the chance to coach at some point it really is a fabulous program.
Oh I hear you on the liaison/admin part I tried for a bit to do that here but it just wasn’t for me. I love the organization but apparently I really love the unpaid vs. paid part of the job.
Yes I love the coaching part but not all of the organizational things. I hope most of that is over now.
You must be doing something right–68 girls is amazing! Wish I lived closer so I could help out.
Now that would be epic!! They would love you 🙂
I love how passionate you are about GOTR!
Congrats on another great week of workouts. You always have an awesome variety of workouts – I really need to switch things up after my marathon season it over.
I do like to mix it up for sure. My mind would love to run much more but my body would not be happy
I’m sure the parent questions are crazy! Maybe you can save your “answers” to the questions you must get over and over. Today was crazy hot for all the last-Sunday-in-September races! I hope we can do yoga together soon!
Yes the parent questions are crazy! It was super hot today for sure. I am so ready for fall
Great week of workouts! I love that you work with the GOTR program! 68 girls is amazing! Once I can carve out some free time, I would like to get involved in that program.
I highly recommend it such a meaningful program for young girls.
Yous soup club sounds awesome!
Oh it’s so much fun even though it’s 90 degrees today!!
Great week! It’s great that you have 68 girls signed up – good luck with the training!
Thanks so much!
Happy (belated) New Year!! That was a crazy week…I bet you slept well LOL I’m excited to hear about your 10K 😉
I did sleep better last week! The first 10 K went pretty well and gave me a good base line
Looks like you got great workouts in on a busy week! What a cool punching bag thing you added to your home gym! I would love to have one of those! Way to go with GOTR! Such a cool program!
Love the new punching bag feels great to punch things!
Somehow I’ve missed all this time that you’re Jewish, too! LShanah Tova (and don’t ask me why I’m running my goal half the day after Yom Kippur, either!).
You are a saint for dealing with those parents.
Happy new year to you as well! You will still rock it next weekend 🙂
Wow Deborah, 68 girls!!! How many of those will follow the program til the end?
I have enjoyed seeing all the progress you’ve made with them. I truly believe you are teaching them so much more than just running!
Hey I’d love the recipe for your roasted red pepper and corn chowder have you posted it before?
Yes all of the girls will finish the 10 week program and then complete the 5k at the end. Here is the soup recipe. It is an older one not as pretty but just as delicious https://confessionsofamotherrunner.com/2015/01/12/kicked-up-corn-chowdermeatless-monday/
Wow looks like a super busy week, congrats for fitting so much in! That punching bag sure looks fun – have you had any training in the past, or did you download a programme for it?
I have a trainer and we have been doing some boxing stuff together for a number of years. I suspect you could down load some workouts for it but I am not aware of any that I would suggest.
Ragnar Napa Valley will be so much fun. Totally jealous over that one. It’s hard to fathom that it is time for things called Soup Club. Hopefully, Fall will make an appearance soon. Can’t wait to hear about the 10k! Thanks for linking!
I know it’s usually so much cooler by now but I will enjoy my soup anyway 🙂
Yay for a small yoga class and extra attention. That’s something I just do get when I do yoga videos on YouTube. 🙂
yes I guess that;s true!
I love that you head up the Girls on the Run group …that would be so much fun and so rewarding, even though I’m sure it is a lot of work and can be stressful at times.
The boxing equipment …..all I can say is, dang! look at those muscles!!
today was the first day of the program and it went really well! And thanks 🙂
That is a pretty cool looking gym you have at home. How cool that you are a GOTR coach. I did it one semester/season and would like to do it again. We’ll see.
I love coaching the little girls hope you have a chance to do it again soon
Girls on the Run sounds like so much fun! I wish I would have had something like that to be involved in as a young girl 🙂 Way to go on blessing those girls – though I’m sure all the questions and planning is overwhelming initially! Great week of quality workouts, despite the busy-ness!
I wish I had a program like that when I was growing up too
