As you may have noticed the past few months, Hemp Hearts are all the rage these days! I first tried them out last spring when I was sent some samples from Manitoba Harvest. I had never even heard of them but quickly fell in love and starting adding them to my baked goods. I’ve since made delicious Pumpkin Muffins & Butterscotch Chocolate & Oatmeal protein bars and find myself throwing them into all kinds of recipes.
When I was offered the chance to taste the new Hemp Heart Bars, I jumped on it. Anyone who knows me knows that I am always hungry. When I do not have snacks I get very cranky yup just like a toddler! Like you, I work hard by exercising and eating well and I want my snacks to fill me up with quality ingredients that keep me going. So let’s take a look at what’s in the new Hemp Heart Bars.
With 3 flavors to choose from-Vanilla, Chocolate and Apple Cinnamon these bars are packed with 10 grams of plant based protein, 10 grams of Omegas and less than 10 grams of sugar. They are vegan and non GMO.
The chocolate Hemp Heart bar was my favorite because well, chocolate. The bars are subtly flavored and you do not get that artificial taste found in some protein bars. They have a nutty and not too sweet flavor that leaves me satisfied. Sometimes, if I eat a bar that’s too sweet, I only want more sweets. Sound familiar?

Manitoba Harvest is also running a photo contest details here where they will be awarding prizes for photos tagged with #fuelledbyhemp @ManitobaHarvest (please notice spelling of Fuelled for their campaign) You do not have to have the bars in your photo to enter.
Hemp Hearts are definitely a food trend for 2016 and are now readily available at most grocery stores. They are a nutritional powerhouse filled with healthy fats and plant based proteins. I believe we will be seeing lots more of them this year!
How do you use Hemp Hearts?
