Since it is the official start to summer this week, a Summer Fitness Goals post seems in order. It’s been a while since I have done a goals post. Usually, I am waist deep into triathlon training by this point in the summer however, with all of our travel, I decided to skip that this year. That does not mean I will be slacking on my fitness though.
Summer Fitness Goals
I am the first to admit, Summer Running is my 4th favorite season to run in. I really do struggle with the heat and humidity. Even employing my best tips on how to survive summer running don’t always help enough. I enjoy doing lots of cross training and other summer activities. Here are a few of my summer fitness goals.
The aforementioned travels, albeit amazing, left a few unwanted pounds. I am sure a few weeks of my “normal eating” will put me back on track. As I have mentioned before, I do not weigh myself anymore (or “diet”) so I am relying on how my clothes are fitting. Eating out for 3 weeks straight does not help anyone! I plan to get back to my meal planning and sticking to it.
Oh summer running why are you so hard? I do not have any summer races on my schedule for a change. Seriously, who am I? They tend not to go that well so I am planning on keeping up my schedule of running 3 days per week. I will stick to shorter runs of 3-5 miles for most of June and July. Fall is my favorite running season and it won’t be here soon enough.
While I dislike summer running, I love summer biking and swimming. I have been doing lots of Peloton rides and I plan to transition back to outdoor riding at least once a week. I plan to do some part of the Reston Century Ride August 25th.
Swimming is something I really enjoy and hope to get some lap swimming in at least once week and/or pool running with my fluid running system. See my review here. I find pool running a great way to get some extra cardio in that mimics running without the impact.
Strength training sessions will remain the same at 2 times per week. This means on most days I will end up with more than one workout.
Take advantage of summer fun
Summer is the best time to take advantage of other fun activities like stand up paddle boarding and kayaking.
Well looks like I will be busier than I thought this summer! Hopefully this will leave me in better shape to start training for longer races in the fall. What are your summer goals?
