Winter running-love it or hate it? Whatever your answer, we can’t avoid it. For the most part, I enjoy winter running much more than the heat and humidity of summer running. Over the past 15 years, I have tried out a ton of gear and finally have my favorite pieces nailed down to a science. Here are my top picks from head to toe.
Be Prepared From Head To Toe
A good beanie hat has been essential for me this winter. Easy enough to roll up into my jacket if I get too warm. (Sarah Marie Design Studio)
Run Swiftly Base layer long sleeve
The Lululemon Run Swiftly long sleeve has been my go to base layer for years. The perfect weight for temp from 20-50 degrees and easy to layer with a vest or jacket. When it’s under 20 degrees, I switch to the Under Armour cold gear mock turtleneck.
My favorite and most versatile running jacket has been my North Face. This is a similar one.
If you know me well, you know I love to express myself with fun patterned tights. My go to winter tights are Skirt Sports triple pocket and for temps under 20 degrees the Lululemon fleece lined speed up tights.
Balega Socks-During the winter, I prefer the Blister Resist quarter length. Made a blend of mohair and moisture wicking material, these socks cover my ankles and keep my feet a little warmer in the winter.
I’ve definitely amassed quite a collection of gloves over the past few years in my search for the perfect pair. This season’s favorites are these Nike found at Dick’s sporting goods available in rose or black.
My hands are the one part that get really cold so when the temps drop below 25 I add in a pair of hand warmers into my gloves. I have bought them by the case this winter!
Of course the most important accessory I bring to my run is my small tripod for taking group selfies :).
These are my go to pieces that keep me prepared for winter running from head to toe. What are your must haves? Hand warmers or not?
