Just when the stress of the holiday season seems to be at its peak, the festive races appear to remind us all to lighten up and have some fun. Dressing up in holiday race attire just makes running so much more merry. Let’s chat Jingling all the way!
Jingling All The Way
A friend of mine convinced me to sign up for this 15K last week. (Or maybe I convinced her). Anyway, a few of our other friends were already registered and we figured, the more the merrier. I am usually a little leery of races this time of the year because our weather is so unpredictable.
This year was no different, a cold spell moved in this week bringing us temps in the upper 20’s for race day. Thankfully, the Jingle All The Way 15K has a cute holiday hat option instead of a race shirt. I settled on an outfit that would leave me chilly at the start but not too warm after I started. I also needed an excuse to wear this shirt.
Although I live right outside of Washington, DC, I rarely run in town and admittedly take all the beautiful surroundings of DC a little for granted. I was excited to be running in the heart of DC with the Jingle All The Way starting right in front of the Washington Monument. This would be a very similar course to the Cherry Blossom 10 Miler.
The 5k was finishing just as the 15K was starting. No real fanfare at the start and we were off. I chose to do 5:1 run/walk intervals and a friend offered to stick with me the whole time. The miles ticked by as we chit chatted. DC is such a fun city to run through even on a cold and dreary day.
I started to get tired and a bit cold by mile 8 and was glad to hear the finish line announcer off in the distance. That last 5 minutes of the race always seems to drag on. We ran through the finish line and quickly met up with the rest of our speedier run crew. Warm coffee and hot chocolate is always appreciated!
I absolutely love the medal this year with the snowman that moves back and forth. Will run for bling! We were also provided a small jingle bell to attach to our shoes so we literally “jingled all the way”.
A fun way to end the year of racing and running. Have anymore races this year?
