Happy Friday! This year is just flying by and before we know it Thanksgiving and Christmas will have passed. We will soon find ourselves again at a New Year. I am not one for New Year’s Resolutions; I figure, why wait to make changes? Today, I am sharing 5 Bad Habits I’d Like To Break before New Year’s Day.
5 Bad Habits I’d Like To Break
Letting the laundry pile up
Like any fitness fanatic, I have lots of dirty workout clothes. Couple those with my teenage son’s lacrosse gear and we have a constant mountain of laundry. I usually do laundry twice a week and then it just sits in the baskets waiting to be folded. Sometimes it’s still there when it’s time to do the next load. I’ve tried putting it next to my bed or next to the couch so I can fold it while I watch TV. Nope it’s still sitting there. In fact, I am sitting next to this pile right now.
Putting off my stretches
I wish I could say that I always stretch right after my runs or workouts. I don’t. I am either lazy or I get caught up in doing other more important things (like uploading my running pics to Instagram). I have made this a goal before but I am having trouble staying on top of it. Often times, I realize right before bed that I never stretched post run. Doing the Restorative Yoga poses I wrote about earlier in the week really make me feel terrific. I just would like to get better at doing them more consistently. A bad habit I know I can break.
Skimping on the sunscreen
I know this is a bad one! I’ve had a few pre-cancerous spots frozen off of my face in the last few years. While I have been better at applying sunscreen on my face, I tend to skimp on the rest of my body. I know this is a terribly bad habit and I am sure I will pay for it later.
Not taking extra rest days
Hello late 40’s and thanks for longer recovery times. The past few months, I’ve realized that some weeks I just need more rest. I am usually reluctant to admit this because, to me, that means I am not as strong as I once was. I also have serious FOMO and since most of my workouts are with friends, I feel like I am missing out. This is obviously silly and counterproductive.
I sometimes get a little over zealous about how much I intend to cook each week. I can very easily over buy veggies. Because I am a vegetarian and the rest of my family is not, I usually make 2 different dinners. My husband does not like eating the same thing 2 nights in a row and I’ve gotten into the back habit of throwing away food at the end of the week. Maybe this is really his fault? Ha! Anyway, I now have a weekly vegetable subscription box that has fabulous initiatives to reduce food waste. More on this later but needless to say, this is something I’d like to pay more attention to and see if I can do a better job.
Do you wait until January to make resolutions? Any bad habits you’d like to break?
