So….yes I wrote a post last week about running being hard for me right now and it still is. Having said that, fall is my favorite time of year for running and racing as the weather is usually just perfect here in the DC area. I roped a few friends into signing up for the Marine Corps Marathon 10K this weekend and I am writing this post today to remind me why the 10K is one of my favorite distances to run. Today I offer you 6.2 reasons to love a 10K.
6.2 Reasons to Love A 10K
Normally you can sign up last minute and pick up your race packet day of.
10K races are usually stress free and easy with logistics.
You do not have to be fast
Lots of people walk a 10K and there are always groups of walk/runners as well.
6.2 miles is a doable training distance for most
Most runners can train for a 10K with 2-3 runs per week and long runs are not required. Training does not have to take over your life on the weekends.
Recovery is pretty easy
Most runners recover pretty easily from a 10K and are not down for the count the whole next week.
Great training for longer races
10K’s can be great training for longer races and the perfect time to test out new gear or nutrition options.
10K’s are easy to talk your friends into
I am so easily talked into 10K races.
10K races are just long enough to feel like you had a great workout
10K races are somewhere right around an hour give or take and that’s just long enough to justify getting up early and your post race hot chocolate.
Next up on my race calendar:
MCM 1oK- October 30
On Eagles Wings 10K-November 11
Bethesda Turkey Chase 10K- November 24
There are so many reasons to love a 10K and these are just a few of my top. Tell me: What is your favorite race distance and why?
