Summer brings all sorts of great things: warm weather, sunshine, blooming flowers just to name a few but summer can also bring mosquito bites. I can be with a whole group of people and be the only one getting bitten! Maybe it’s because I am so sweet? 🙂 I did a little research and discovered a few Tips To Avoid Mosquitoes While Exercising Outdoors.
Thank you to SoSoft Brands for sponsoring this post and providing me with free samples in exchange for an honest review.
Tips to Avoid Mosquitoes While Exercising Outdoors
I always thought that mosquitoes were attracted to sweat and that was why I got bitten while running or biking. After doing some very unscientific research I discovered that mosquitos are attracted to carbon dioxide. When we exercise, we expel carbon dioxide. How interesting huh?
Wear compression clothing
Mosquitoes have a harder time penetrating through tighter woven fabrics.
Wear lighter colored clothing
Mosquitoes are attracted to darker colors.
Avoid being outdoors at dusk or dawn
When the wind is usually lower (at dusk and dawn) mosquitoes are more prevalent. They apparently do not like to fly around when it’s windier.
Run away from ponds and lakes
Mosquitoes tend to hang out around standing water such as lakes/ponds.
Protect you skin
Mosquitoes are more likely to bite the thinner or unprotected areas such as ankles, wrists, elbows and knees. Those are the places that you want to make sure to protect with mosquito spray.
After I’ve put on all my sunscreen, visor, sunglasses etc the last thing I want to do is spray on another thing! But a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do! I was sent some SoSoft Brands all natural, organic and Deet free mosquito spray to test out on my run.
SoSoft Brands has a light lemony scent that dried quickly on my ankles, knees & elbows. I love that SoSoft Brands is made in the US out of all natural, organic ingredients like lemongrass, cedar, citronella & rosemary. Because it’s Deet free it’s a great option for the whole family or those with sensitive skin.
How do you ward off mosquito bites while having fun outdoors in the summertime?
