Well this is certainly not the post I intended to write. These are definitely not the goals I was planning to work on right now. After missing so many races in 2014 due to a stress fracture, I was hoping for a kick ass 2015. However, after a few weeks of escalating heel pain, I finally went to the Dr. on Tuesday to find out that I have a severe case of Plantar fasciitus which will require me to wear a boot for a couple of weeks. Obviously I won’t be running or doing many of the workouts I currently do. Deep breath…trying not to cry as I write this. So here goes my newly revised list of goals for 2015:
PR at the Rock n Roll DC Race in March this year. Find a half marathon towards the second half of the year and crush it. I also have 2 Ragnar races on my schedule this year-Cape Cod in May and DC in September.
Start introducing formal speed workouts in January. This goal will have to wait a few months but I am confident I will be able to add them in at some point in the spring.
3. Continue cross training and increase my time on the bike and in the pool. This should help me keep my cardio up for the next 6 weeks while I won’t be running or kick boxing. I will need to be creative the next few weeks to keep up my normal intensity.
4. Get my eating back to normal- Although I consider myself a pretty healthy eater, I always feel like things get out of control this time of year. I don’t believe in diets or quick fixes but in small nutritional tweaks. I’m excited to participate in the 21 re-set with Laura from Mommy Run Fast. I can always use a little refocus in January. If you’d like to join me, it starts next Monday.
5. Get my RRCA Coaching certification in April. I am really looking forward to this and hope to learn more about injury prevention (I surely need it!). As a MRTT Chap leader, members are always asking advice and questions and it will be great to have this information to pass along.
Although, injuries and set backs are never easy I know that I will recover from this one in a few weeks. I’ve come to accept that as we constantly push our bodies, it is inevitable to get injured sometimes. It doesn’t make it any easier right now but I am not giving up. I may have to do a new 2015 goals post in a few months.
