I thought it would be fun to give this Friday Five link up a try!
5 Fitness Goals:
1-Discipline: I’m trying to be very disciplined as I come back to running after my stress fracture in late January. I’m back up to 3 pain free miles and I am so happy to be out with my Moms Run This Town group again. I missed them so much! It’s tempting to jump back in and do too much and risk re-injury. There are so many races and it is hard not to get swept up into doing too much.
2--Yoga I started doing some hot yoga while recovering from the stress fracture. I’ve learned a few things: I’m really not very good at yoga and that’s ok. It’s way out of my “comfort zone” and I like the challenge.I really enjoy it and I think it is a great compliment for running. I love how I feel when I walk out of there. My goal is to keep it up as I ease back into running more often.
3- Cross training– I plan to keep up my cross training as I go back to running more. I believe this will help me stay injury free. I already do strength training 2-3x per week including kick boxing. I especially like spinning and outdoor cycling. I plan to do the Reston Century Bike Ride in August https://restonbicycleclub.wildapricot.org/
4-Nutrition– As a lifelong Vegetarian, I believe I have pretty good “diet” 90% of the time. There are a few tweaks I’d like to make. I’d like to cut out some of the sugar from my diet. This is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Everything has sugar in it! Confession I may also have a hidden stash of Hershey Kisses in the house. I have also become aware of the fact that I eat too many processed foods and I am trying to find homemade alternatives for some of my staples. More on that in upcoming posts.
I’m currently participating in the #SpringReset challenge on my friend Meagan’s site, http://www.thelyonsshare.org/ this has helped me realize some of the above.
It’s so easy to make and eat healthy nutritious food and I feel much better when I do.
5- Family I’d really like to find a way to encourage my family to be a little more active perhaps participate in some of my fitness activities with me. I know that everyone is busy with their own activities and work. I am fortunate enough to have time to exercise daily. I’m hoping some of my crazy behavior will rub off on them.
